From Grammy article!!!!.....Awesome !!!! Nice to read people finally...'get'....Adam

So much of the reason why this incarnation of Queen is exciting is Lambert, whose confidence and theatricality fit like a glove. While his admiration of Mercury is clear to see, he is wisely not trying to replace an irreplaceable legend. Of course, May and drummer Roger Taylor remain two of rock's finest at their respective instruments and they propel this version of Queen to lofty standards. That pedigree came through especially on the rock grandeur of "Fat Bottomed Girls," but also on the musically bipolar "Under Pressure," Queen's classic duet with David Bowie, which excelled with Taylor handling many of the vocals.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in March, May said that this teaming with Lambert "is the closest that you'll ever get to see Queen as it was in our golden days, but it's not a reproduction." That's exactly why this pairing works. It is an iconic band sharing their legend with a frontman who understands and appreciates their legacy. And the results are a joy for anyone who loves Queen.

QUOTE
Queen And Adam Lambert At iHeartRadio Theater

By Steve Baltin
Los Angeles

During a video interview that aired prior to Queen And Adam Lambert's performance at the iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank, Calif., on June 16, Queen guitarist Brian May stated what seemed obvious. "For us it was all over when Freddie [Mercury died], we never thought we'd be playing The Forum and Madison Square Garden again."

Pink Floyd, Alice In Chains and, perhaps most famously, AC/DC, who lost lead singer Bon Scott in 1980 and replaced him with Brian Johnson and went onto even greater success, are just a few of the bands who have shown that the show must go on, literally. But the thought of Queen going on without the charismatic and once-in-a-lifetime talent of Mercury is different (though the group did tour in the past with Paul Rodgers, another all-time great, but one who had a markedly different vocal style and stage presence than Mercury). In polls debating the greatest frontmen in rock history, Mercury is deservedly near the top alongside the likes of Robert Plant, Steven Tyler and Mick Jagger. Personal preferences aside, there is no denying Mercury belongs in the conversation. That's what makes this current Queen and Lambert pairing even more shockingly impressive.

The teaming made their full national debut at last year's iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas, delivering arguably the best performance of the weekend. Last night, appearing only three days before the proper kickoff of their forthcoming tour in Chicago, the pairing made clear their much ballyhooed Vegas appearance was legit.

The taut eight-song set opened with "We Will Rock You," an obvious choice that fired up the audience, getting them to wave their fists and sing along to the familiar refrain. Lambert then asked the crowd if they were ready to get funky as the group kicked into "Another One Bites The Dust." The show went to the next level with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," during which May delivered two solos that electrified the crowd.

Lambert introduced the next song by saying it would be something new for Queen. Indeed, the group tackled "Love Kills," a 1984 Mercury solo song he worked on with iconic GRAMMY-winning producer Giorgio Moroder for a restored version of the film Metropolis. Lambert said it was a disco song without the disco done "Queen style," and while most of the song was done as a sweet ballad, with Lambert and May seated on stools, the song did feature a disco kick near the end, taking on a contemporary remix feel.

The energy surged back up for an aggressive "Fat Bottomed Girls," the most rocking song of the night, which Lambert dedicated to all the "fat-a**ed b****es out there."

Following a spirited rendition of "We Are The Champions," done on this night without its pairing with "We Will Rock You," the night wrapped with "Don't Stop Me Now" from 1978's Jazz. The perfect vehicle for Lambert's vocal range, the trademark Queen song was the unquestioned highpoint of the set.

Set List:

"We Will Rock You"
"Another One Bites The Dust"
"Crazy Little Thing Called Love"
"Love Kills"
"Fat Bottomed Girls"
"Under Pressure"
"We Are The Champions"
"Don't Stop Me Now"

Catch Queen And Adam Lambert in a city near you

(Steve Baltin has written about music for Rolling Stone, Los Angeles Times, MOJO, Chicago Tribune, AOL, LA Weekly, Philadelphia Weekly, The Hollywood Reporter, and dozens more publications.)
I have tears in my eyes

No, Love Kills is the surprise that Nick was referring to in his Notes from the Road.
And in other news, I have no idea when these terms originated but there is no other they are meant for....

'Tall Drink of Water'.....'Sex on a Stick'. Look at him, just look at him. He is perfection (in so many ways)!

:w00t: What a great review from Billboard. Thank you Marie. I did go to the grammy site to read it.

It's fantastic how many reviews are in support of Adam with Queen and it's really nice to see the Queen fans supporting Adam too. I am sure that by the end of the tour all the die-hard Queen fans will realize just how great Adam is and if it wasn't for him, they would not be reliving the past and the wonderful music that is Queeen. :)

Loving all the tweets about Love Kills. Such a beautiful rendition of an otherwise dark song.

PR is too busy eating crow and sour grapes. :whistling:
Whenever I hear Brian and Roger talking about PR and then Adam, I get the feeling that they heard his diss of Adam, and they're jabbing back. A little of " You think you're better than Adam and he can't handle it? Well, he's our pick and he's going to steamroll you under." JMHO

What a great article. Most articles, reports, blogs and comments are enthusiastic. The tour will be a huge success, no question.

Thanks to Marie and everyone for bringing over the pics, tweets and downloads.

Paul Rodgers "trashing" Adam? He was asked in an interview two years ago and said "It’s probably a dream come true for Adam, but I wonder if he has the groundwork to see him through a big tour with those guys,”. At that time he knew nothing about Adams background and skills - when asked today he probably would give a different answer.
Silvia' date='Jun 17th 2014, 5:28 PM

If he knew nothing about him, he should have kept his mouth shut.
I'm giving him the benefit of doubt that he didn't because if he did, he just wanted to dis Adam.

BTW, do you really think that when he heard about the tour and his replacement, he didn't google and YT him??? Because I have some prime Image piece of property to sell. I'll give you a good price. :icecream:

Come on!!!! A minute after hearing about it he would have researched :haha:

Love Kills was a definitive shift in the evolution of Queen

Marie…you are our foundation here and just want to thank you again…and again …and again……..

this phrase is so freakin' special……it makes me verklempt, too……..i haven't had a chance to post after the concert (had to dash and run due to good old RL)…….but, like many of you, thought adam held back due to vocal concerns for Thursday….actually a no brainer…but the taste of iHeart has my salivatory glands in overdrive….LK was amazing….. was everything that adam has in his vocal arsenal ..high to lows and brilliant emotion……so loved the Grammy and this Click review……….do think that QAL is a pivotal career changer for him………maybe not regarding radio (but who knows?) but as an artist who stays true to himself and takes on one of the most charismatic frontman of all time with kudos from the media along with the tumbling purists who say " ok …i'm ready to eat humble pie"………this is really what it is all about…….RESPECT for an artist…. not $$$$ ….but guess what? …he will have it all……..and all of us here have known this since he was first into'd via AI….

so love this epic novel…but what i really <3 ……... it is not fiction!……adam you are a " vigueur pour tous les temps"….a "force for all time" (marie... hope i'm right :D )…...

Queen + Adam Lambert’s iHeart Radio show proved they’ve rediscovered their killer instincts
Love Kills was a definitive shift in the evolution of Queen

POSTED 17TH JUNE 2014 IN FEATURES & REVIEWS, QUEEN | BY PAUL LEAKE

Queen + Adam Lambert’s iHeart Radio show proved they’ve rediscovered their killer instincts

The news that Queen would be touring with Adam Lambert this summer raised some eyebrows among Queen purists. They've collaborated before on a handful of gigs, but nothing on the scale of what they're about to do this summer. As a result, some people questioned whether the pairing would be able to capture the magic in huge stadiums and bring the Queen back catalogue to life. But if the iHeart Radio show proved anything, it's that Adam brings something they never had with Paul Rodgers: crackling chemistry.

Paul was fine as a frontman, but he was really just a singer for hire. He never brought life to the songs Brian, Roger, Freddie and John had crafted together. And those songs were undeniable full of life, even when the band was facing the finality of Freddie's last few months. They pulsed with a vitality that made them unique; they were burning up with the intense emotions and hunger of each member. The spark was missing when they toured with Paul and most people were there just to see Brian and Roger perform the hell out of those songs.

Adam is different. He's an incredible singer with a charismatic presence on stage and he's managed to form a strong friendship with Brian and Roger along the way. That friendship has a real spark to it that promises to light up stages across North America this summer. Their surprise performance of 'Love Kills' last night – a song from Freddie's solo back catalogue – crackled with originality and managed to pay tribute to one of music's all-time greats by doing it differently. It marked a shift in the evolution of Queen.

For the first time in a long time, it feels like Queen really are back, regenerated into something distinct and exciting. And fans should be excited because Adam has helped Brian and Roger rediscover the spark that defined the band before Freddie's death. He's helped them become 'Killer Queen' all over again.

Heather and I saw Queen at a tiny show in Burbank yesterday! Here’s a BuzzFeed post I did about it:

Marie (and others), have you been following Queen fans today to see what they are saying?
Love2Lurk' date='Jun 17th 2014, 8:47 PM

I just quickly looked at Queenonline & QueenFB....

Both seemed to be mostly Glamberts going on about Love Kills.....in a good way...not OTT....

There were more Queen purists on FB...making snarky remarks....not as bad as usual though

Most were complaining about ...the short set list....Paul could sing longer  :haha:
Silvia' date='Jun 17th 2014, 9:37 PM

Do they think the world concerts will be 45 min each? :haha:

I guess that's an improvement if that's what they are complaining about.

MTE  :haha:

Could be worse :haha:

This was in a thread regarding Love Kills. (Not on a Queen board, but on a Queen section of a board) The comments are rated most agreed with to the lowest. So the first comment is the most popular.

Wow, he killed it. Perhaps I was able to enjoy it a bit more than Lambert's other Queen "covers" as a result of the fact that I have no live frame of reference.

[–]geekstone
I really liked it, and it seems like a new Queen song albeit one written by Freddie. I think it helped that it is "obscure" so they can put their own spin on it without being instantly being compared to the original lineup.I am starting to wonder if a new Queen + Adam Lambert album might not be such a bad idea. It can't be worse than The Cosmos Rocks.

[–]jakdak
Interesting spin on that one.
Did Queen ever play this song with Freddie?

[–]blamebravery [+1] 6 points 19 hours ago (6|0)
No

[–]jakdak
Wonder why they pulled that particular track out of Freddie's solo catalog.
[–]blamebravery Could be that they are putting it in the new album.

[–]jakdak
I hope not- the new albums was supposed to be the last remnants of the old Freddie material.
This should just go on the Q+A live album.

[–]blamebravery
If they do make a live recording of this tour I hope it's the one I go to. But what they did with love kills was good. I was not disappointed,

Just went back looking for the original version of that- forgot that they guitared it up for the version they put on "Great Pretender" and the original was just on the 1984 single from the Metropolis soundtrack.

I like the new Lambert spin on it, but think I still prefer the extended version of Freddie's original.

OK, so I got sick of people saying how obscure this song is because it's not and I actually remembered this song and that it wasn't a bad song at all.

Here's what the bible of all things (wikipedia :teehee: ) has to say
QUOTE
It was originally used in Giorgio Moroder's restoration and edit of the 1927 silent film Metropolis, as part of the movie's new soundtrack. The movie was nominated at the 1985 Razzie Awards for "Worst Original Score",[1] and the song itself was nominated for "Worst Original Song",[2] haha.gif even though the single reached #10 on the UK Singles Chart.
The song was also used for the closing credits of the movie Loaded Weapon 1.

So, while younger people might not know it, anyone who is a Queen fan should know it.

“Love Kills” June 16, 2014
“Love Kills” was written by Freddie Mercury And Giorgio Moroder in the mid 80s for the restoration of the 1927 silent film Metropolis. The song was not greeted with universal acclaim. ( And that’s putting it rather mildly) In fact it got a Razzie nomination for “Worst Original Song” in 1985. I think it has something to do with that funky (not in a good way) disco beat.
But on Monday the two original Queen band members, Brian May and Roger Taylor, together with the phenomenally talented Adam Lambert, kicked off their sold-out summer tour with a mini concert on IHeart Radio. They debuted this gorgeous re-interpretation of “Love Kills.” Surprise! It’s a good song. It’s got good bones. It has lyrical beauty and power, poignancy and a haunting melody.
