Queen with Adam Lambert brought glam spectacle, cherished songs to the south
Climbing onto Mercury's shoes is no small feat, but Lambert found a balance, somehow making each song his, while paying adequate homage. For the Toyota Center audience, it seemed to work.
While Mercury was all rock, almost feral in his playful abandon, Lambert brings something perhaps more controlled, more practiced. But both share a similar spirit a brazen, in-your-face vanity, coupled with the sense that rock does not have to just be music, it can be theater. Lambert straddled a thin line, with one platform boot on the rocker side, the other planted firmly Vegas-style showmanship.
By the time Queen went into its encore -- the iconic sports anthems, "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions," naturally -- the audience was all-in. http://s.nola.com/MiQ4AXc via @nolanews

As many of you know my son and I saw Queen in Houston last night. I really wanted Tyler at 13 years old to experience real music first hand. I must admit to being a huge Freddie Mercury fan going in but was certain it would be a great show. I have to tell you that Adam Lambert delivered the best vocal performance I have ever seen in my life last night. It was absolutely flawless. The range, power and tone of his voice combined with his incredible persona made for an incredible evening. Brian May and Roger Taylor were everything you thought they would be. They all appeared to be having a great time and the rapport between Adam Lambert and the rest of the guys was apparent. Bravo Mr. Lambert! Long live Queen! "
