Review: Adam Lambert's 'For Your Entertainment' glams it up greatly

What, you expected subtlety?

Adam Lambert's "For Your Entertainment" is every bit the boffo, glam-rock, disco-pop space oddity you'd expect from the "American Idol" standout. It's a bold, assured, boot-stomping romp, and it's so over-the-top it should come packaged in a mirror ball.

For his fans, this won't come as a surprise. Lambert hit the "American Idol" stage earlier this year like a transplant from the planet Glampire: David Bowie funneled through Edward Cullen. Over the course of the show, he proved to be the most exciting "Idol" contestant in years, with a fearlessness stemming from years of stage experience and a shocking caterwaul that could strip the paint off walls.

He also demonstrated his dexterity across a number of genres, whether vamping through Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" or quietly emoting in a beautiful rendition of Smokey Robinson's "The Tracks of My Tears." In what may have been his signature performance, he gave a psycho-sexual, Middle Eastern-influenced reading of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" that would have had the Man in Black either rolling in his grave or rolling with laughter.

He brings that same go-for-broke spirit to "For Your Entertainment," which despite sharing a name with a national chain of record stores, proves to be an apropos summation of Lambert's M.O. "Let me entertain you 'til you scraaaaay-eeeee-aaaaaaayyy-eeeeeee-aaaYYYYYYY-eeeeeee-AAAYYYYMM!" he bellows on the title track, somehow cramming every musical note into one banshee wail.

If the goal is to entertain, he succeeds, as there's rarely a dull moment on "FYE." Some moments are less effective than others -- "Aftermath" is the kind of "keep pushing on" claptrap every "Idol" album seems to be saddled with, and the album is frontloaded with one too many Gary Glitter clones -- but no one can accuse Lambert of holding back.

Credit Team Lambert for pairing him with a host of top-notch, like-minded collaborators, from Lady Gaga (who wrote the daring "Fever") and Pink (who lent a hand to "Whataya Want from Me") to the Darkness' Justin Hawkins (whose proficiency for arena rock cheese is slathered over opener "Music Again") and interstellar English rockers Muse (lead singer Matthew Bellamy wrote "Soaked").

A-list hitmakers Dr. Luke (the pulsating title track), Linda Perry (the moody, spacey "A Loaded Smile") and Max Martin (potential single "If I Had You") weigh in, as well. And Weezer's Rivers Cuomo proves an unlikely partner-in-crime on the joyful "Pick U Up," a bouncy club-rocker with walls of trickling synths laid underneath the fist-pumping chorus.

Lambert is a pot-stirrer -- the fetching spaceboy album cover is evidence of that -- and the album has an in-your-face, unapologetic sexuality. Plenty can be read into lines such as "Open your mouth and open it wide: Let the freedom begin" ("Strut"). "Fever," meanwhile, opens with, "there he goes, my baby walks so slow, sexual tic-tac-toe," which is bound to raise an eyebrow or two from "Idol's" more conservative fan base.

Lambert's greatest asset is, of course, his crazy vocal range, which can soar to dizzying heights but easily lends itself to overkill.

On the album, he displays control over his voice that he didn't on "Idol," and he doesn't over-rely on histrionics. He stays reigned in at times (such as on the electronic outer space ballad "Broken Open") and lets it go when need be.

"FYE" also sparkles with a welcome sense of humor: "My baby clothes made of leather and lace," Lambert sings amid the wild rumpus of "Sure Fire Winners," the best and most unhinged of the album's T. Rex-style glam throwdowns. And he lets out a gleeful laugh at the close of "Pick U Up," a refreshing reminder that yes, this is all meant to be fun.

It goes without saying that "For Your Entertainment" is the most poised debut from any "Idol" to date. Lambert has a vision and has successfully honed a sound that pays homage to his heroes while carving a niche for himself.

More than anything, "For Your Entertainment" bares the stamp of a born entertainer. So sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

Hi everybody!

Just got back from the show, It's almost 2 a.m. and I'm exhausted! But the show was awesome, Adam was fantastic as always and he seemed to be drenched in glitter!

Me and the sis ended up in the first row of the balcony, too far away to get pictures unfortunately but I can tell you that once Adam hit the stage TONS of cameras came out, which I could see clearly from the balcony, so I'm sure people were taking pics - and vids too, for all I know. Security didn't seem to be stopping them either. So, courage! Something is bound to show up eventually. :)

Adam seemed to be having a great time tonight, his voice was strong and man, was he sparkly!! Gorgeous to look at, every moment he was on stage!

Allison and Orianthi were great too, but I have a question for those who have seen the show: at the end of Allison's set, does she just turn and walk offstage without a good night or anything? She did that tonight and I thought it was kind of odd...toward the end of her last song she just walked offstage, while the music for the song was still playing. Just thought that was sort of weird...
ohiogal' date='Jun 19th 2010, 2:15 AM

Well, to be fair to the venue, unlike many Adam plays at, Royal Oak Theater has an official venue photographer (whom I've met and who is a very nice guy, as well as a very good photographer! He should have pix from the Adam concert up at the Royal Oak website soon, I would think). The theater HAS to be strict on the no-photo rule, as a matter of legality. That said, I personally took some snaps with a security guy not fifteen feet away from me, and once Adam came on the floor below me was a veritable sea of glowing cameras, all taking photos (at least!), and the red-shirted security guys didn't seem to be trying to stop them. So, go figure.

As an aside, I really liked Taylor's hair tonight. Instead of slicking his hair back, or brushing it all over to one side, he fluffed it out so it laid on both sides of his head. I don't know if he's worn it that way before, but it helped his look a lot IMO. He has a very angular face, and having hair framing both sides of it softened his look and made him look much cuter - at least to me!

And yeah, Adam seemed to be in a pretty good mood tonight. At one point I swear he SKIPPED up the stairs... :D

Adam Graham: Review
Adam Lambert glams it up at Royal Oak Music Theatre

Adam Lambert was, hands down, the most exciting performer to ever strut across the "American Idol" stage. Others, such as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, blossomed in their post-"Idol" careers, but week in and week out, there was no contestant who ever brought a more complex, provocative and electrifying dynamic to the "Idol" stage than Lambert.

The born performer brought his first headlining outing, dubbed the Glam Nation tour, to a sold-out Royal Oak Music Theatre Friday night. Lambert's 65-minute performance highlighted the 28-year-old's showstopping vocals, which are even more powerful since they've been reigned in from his often over-the-top "Idol" performances, as well as his flare for showmanship. He Donned a series of costumes -- he wore a top hat and overcoat for his opening suite of songs -- and was bathed in a bevy of lasers, while performing choreographed dances with his team of dancers. Lambert's show never lacked for sparkle.
But it sometimes lacked bite, and suffered early on from a series of pacing problems. Lambert made the curious choice to open the show with a recording of "For Your Entertainment," the title cut from his post-"Idol" set, which played to an empty, darkened stage. Lambert then emerged and launched into "Voodoo" and "Down the Rabbit Hole," a pair of bonus tracks from "FYE," and followed with his middle-eastern influenced take on Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire," the most divisive of his "Idol" performances.

It wasn't until the fifth song, "Fever," that the pace quickened and the show found it's groove, and from there it was a parade of pizazz: "Sleepwalker" pulsated with spacey atmospherics, with blue lasers criss-crossing over the crowd; an acoustic "Whataya Want From Me" felt both sincere and defensive; and "Soaked," which seemed to unfold in slow motion, was appropriately theatrical.

Lambert was able to successfully leapfrog styles, from glam-pop and theatre rock, his boundless instrument unifying the material. Best were the bawdy pop throwdowns "Surefire Winners" (where he brags his baby clothes were made of leather and lace) and "Strut," as well as the celebratory schlock rock of "Music Again." "If I Had U," accompanied by an armageddon of lasers, closed the set, while a mashup of a sped-up "Mad World" and a slowed-down "Whole Lotta Love" acted as the encore. Lambert's vocals were the focus, and they rarely ever wavered, although his band could have used more punch (man, the things he could do with a string section!). In addition, his conceptualization of the production deserves more than a plain backdrop and a screen projector. Still, Lambert is on the right path, although it's borderline criminal for a show called "Glam Nation" to not employ the use of a glitter confetti canon. That's a no-brainer, right?
Australian guitar hero Orianthi and Lambert's fellow eighth season "Idol" alum Allison Iraheta opened the show. The two joined forces on the spunky "Don't Waste the Pretty," Iraheta's latest single, during Iraheta's 20-minute opening set.

Hey, everybody! :w00twave: Had a great time at the show last night! As Sarah said, we managed to get into the front row of the balcony, and had a great view despite the rather intrusive metal railing right in front of us. The show was fantastic!

We got into the line later in the afternoon. By the time the doors opened it stretched around the block! Longineau happened by at one point and some people got pictures. Security also came by every once in a while and at one point asked us all to keep the sidewalk clear because some people had complained that they couldn't get by us to get to the restaurants on Fourth Street!

There were two lines outside, one for VIP (people who printed tickets out at home or got 'mobile tickets') and one for regular admission. Every so often people from the venue came by to sort out who belonged in which line, since some people were in the wrong lines.

Re:cameras, I wondered if something was going on because from the balcony I could see knots of security in their red shirts moving through the crowd at one point. Still, there were lots of people taking pictures, and I got some from the balcony with no trouble at all (though none of them really came out. I need a better camera!). Sorry to hear that people got kicked out.

So it was a necklace someone threw during WLL! Thanks for the info! I saw something fly onstage and land behind Monte with a very light plasticy sound. Adam just sort of looked at it and kept performing, I was hoping he wasn't annoyed because he'd asked people not to throw things. The crowd was really loved him!!

Hope he comes back around here soon!!

Yes, I've had a few hours of sleep, but now my mind is decently calm after a whole day of events.

I got to the venue Friday morning around 6am, and got my number. From what I was told, yes a good many of the early arrivals would be right against the barriers, but that didn't happen, more on that later.

I did talk to many fans in line including 2 fans who were sisters & they brought 2 young teen girls who were absolutely beautiful & their mother who was also a fan.

I did tweet a few times in line and texted to a great friend of mine, and she was responsible for my glamversion over a year ago. She would also get to listen in via my phone too, and I am sure she was just as excited as I am.

I did get a glimpse of both Allison and Orianthi before the show. Allison did speak to a few fans, but the poor girl looked so tired so I respected her privacy & didn't snap a pic of her, or ask for an autograph. Orianthi, we saw her on the other side of the road going to get some food, and she & her band waved to us & smiled.

One of the young fans that was next to me in did text picture the pic of Adam in his track suit bottoms waving near the buses after she waited 2 hours in the sun. I can't recall her name, my apologies as I can be bad with names. I do thank her for sharing and her mother for granting permission for it to be shared with me then tweeted for others to see.

For a while, the numbers system was honored unofficially by security and fans. Then around 7 or so, the handicapped line form, and we were all assured that they will be in a separate area and away from the barriers. Many of them had guests with them, and we were told that their guests were to stay with them in that area as most of those who had a handicapped/disabled guest did not queue like the able bodied. I respect that the handicapped/disabled be able to see but the seating arrangements for them were not good for both them and fans that were not disabled. I had a lady in a wheelchair near me that pushed me and a few others around quite a bit during the show, and a few in her party were equally rude towards the section for the non handicapped. I have no issues with the handicapped as a good friend of mine has walking issues, but she treats all with respect no matter where she is, and doesn't use her handicap as an excuse for being rude to others.

I was having problems standing, and was anticipating being able to lean against a barrier for the whole show, but that wasn't to be alot of that as I was lucky to have 1 hand on a barrier periodically. Today, my back and feet are paying me back big time for that. My ears unplugged themselves walking from the venue to the parking garage.

Several people tried to push their way to the front in the VIP line, but many of us told them off and/or told security, and made sure they didn't get through. I figured if I made the sacrifice to get up early and queue, I am entitled to a better view, and if they didn't do what I did and so many others, too bad for them. Harsh perhaps, but true.

Yes, the camera police were out in full force. I didn't risk pulling mine out out of my purse, and I know I could've managed great shots at times as I've gotten some nice shots at other shows of other artists. My camera is worth too much to me, and I will wait till Chesaning as they don't have issues there to attempt photography.

My great friend got to listen to Adam's segment as I let her know that I'd rather make sure she heard that just in case my phone ran out of charge after texting and tweeting and internet surfing during the day. I am sure she enjoyed it immensely.

I don't have the set lists for Allison and Orianthi, but I was pleasantly surprised as both girls rocked the stage very well. One of the better sets of opening acts I've encountered at any concert.

Adam came on stage after a remix of FYE was played. From start to finish, the show was very entertaining and rocked. I smiled and did my best not to go THUD especially with some of the most excellent views I managed to see: chest hair, tummy, tongue, freckles on his arm, tons of glitter, the amazing costumes, the leather pants, and the bare feet with black polish. The background graphics and lighting fit the show well from start to finish too. He truly knows how to entertain and can sing damn well compared some of the manufactured pop stars that would never be able to pull off acoustic style segments like MW, WLL, & WWFM.

I will have to search out the playlist for the show. But it was hard to pick just one highlight as the show was full of them. Especially the encore, when he could've killed us with "Mad World" and one of my personal faves "Whole Lotta Love". WLL  the views I was having at times, lets say I can't post them here :whistling: but those who know my dirty mind know exactly what I am referring to.

Yes Adam, you made me wanna listen to music again, and thank you for being their for our entertainment even though the camera police were in full force. See you live in Chesaning on July 12.

I have a few pics outside venue but nothing inside due the strictness of the no camera rule. So much for me trying to get a pic. Yes there were people getting told off, and thrown out for using them to capture memories for themselves and others. is directed to the venue for the rule not to the fans who attempted to get pics.

Roll on July 12, Chesaning showboat, where I have a guaranteed seat, and a better chance to get pics as the seating is stadium style for better views.

Here's my review! Same one posted on twitter, so that's why the twitter names are there! HAD SO MUCH FUN!

AMAZING, AMAZING night! I have to work today and I'm running on 4 hours sleep, TOPS, but it was SO worth it! I also didn't take any pictures, as the picture nazis in the building were everywhere, and plus anything that I would have taken, would never have come out that great from where we were.

Alright, I won't tease any more, here's my review of the @adamlambert @allisoniraheta @orianthi concert last night. My friend & I arrived at the theater at around 7pm, and we went and stood in line. There were two lines - one for the online ticket printers, and one for the regular mailed-out tickets. At first we went and stood in the wrong line, but were quickly directed to the line that we were supposed to be in. No joke, both lines were halfway around the building - and I DIDN'T see any of my Lamb Skanks representing with the yarn around their wrists - I looked for you all! :(

Anyhow, while we were waiting in line, @TaylorG90 came out, and was videoing the lines around the building. If you can believe it, in our line, I was the only one who recognized him! I said HI TAYLOR!, and he smiled and looked at me, saying hello back as he continued to video the crowd, so it was pretty cool to meet him, even if I didn't get to get a picture with him. Everyone looked at me, and was all, WHO'S THAT? And when I told them that it was Taylor Green, one of Adam's dancers, they couldn't believe it!

We were let inside (took the line a good 45 minutes to get into the building from where we were), and I ended up getting the kissyface Adam t-shirt, which I currently have on under work shirt. We went onto the main floor, but it was WAY to crowded, and I couldn't see for crap, since I'm a shorty. We decided to head up to the balcony, since we thought we'd have a better view there. What luck! We got front row in the balcony - since the venue only holds 1500 people, we still had a decent view!

Allison took the stage not too long afterwards, along with @LizAnneHill, @DavidImmerman, and @SeeValDrum. They were AWESOME! I couldn't believe how tight they were as a band - SO good! Allison's vocals were so good, and people around me couldn't believe that she was only 18! The first thing that I noticed, was how much weight she lost - she looked AMAZING! I'm sure you all know the set lists by now, so I won't name the songs, but I enjoyed her very much!

We waited about 20 minutes after Allison was finished, before @orianthi came onstage and entertained us for about 40 minutes. I didn't know ANY of her songs, except for "According To You" and the Prince cover of "Let's Go Crazy" that she did at the end of her set, but let me tell you, not only can that girl SHRED on her guitar, but her voice! OMG! She can SANG! I think I'm going to pick up her CD. LOVED what I heard from her!

Half an hour went by before the FYE remix started playing - and you know what that meant! TIME FOR ADAM freakING LAMBERT! I won't give you EVERY detail of every song, but I'll note the most interesting parts.

[*]The costume for the opening number was stunning. Pictures do NOT do it justice. The medley was tight too. Adam's vocal were REALLY on point tonight - just out of this world! People who had been to other shows, said that tonight was the best that he's sounded all tour - I believe it! He was in great form.

[*]Not a lot of Adommy moments, surprisingly. There was the arm around him when the "Starts in his bass" part in DTRH was on, a small moment in Fever at the beginning, a show down in SFW, and the arm around him when he was introduced, as usual. Also was a pat on the back at the end of the show. NO leans, surprisingly. There was actually more Adam-Monte interaction than there was Adam-Tommy, which surprised me.

[*]When we could see his hair, it really looked good. It's starting to grow back, people, so don't fret! He had rhinestones in the shaved part, which really didn't look all that shaved any more, as it's coming back in.

[*]Adam can not only SING, but the kid can DANCE as well. He looked great up there with the dancers, and everyone was in sync. Adam looks like he's been working out - his arms looked amazing, as did the rest of his body, of course. The dance with Brooke during the dancer's breakdown - there were some moves in there that I haven't yet seen on this tour!

[*]The acoustic part of the show was amazing. He did a lot of acapella stuff, and his voice just radiated through the building. GAH. I can't even begin to tell you. I hope that we got some decent video footage of the show, because his vocal skills were off the damn chain last night. Soaked was AMAZING - brought tears to my eyes, as did Aftermath. New appreciation for both songs, after last night!

[*]We got both WLL and MW for an encore last night - can we say HELL YEAH?! SO good! :D Broken Open got swapped out in place of both songs for an encore, but it was a fair trade-off, I'd say.

[*]Adam was glowing. I couldn't really make out much of what he was saying during the banter, but he seemed happy, and I could see his glow from where I was standing.

After the show, we were going to stand out at the buses to meet the band and dancers, but it was raining when we came out, and we didn't know which buses to stand at. Didn't meet Adam either, so #MissionmeetGLAMBERT618 failed me. Oh well, it's all good! :)

To sum things up - ALLISON - AMAZING!
ORIANTHI - ROCKED IT!
ADAM - OUT OF THIS freakING WORLD!

Great, great night. GO see the "Glam Nation Tour" if you get a chance. You won't regret it! Thanks SO MUCH to @adamlambert, @Monterrific, @TommyJoeRatliff, @Longineu, @UhHuhHerMusic, @TaylorG90, @sashamallory, Terrance, Brooke, @allisoniraheta, @LizAnneHill, @DavidImmerman, @SeeValDrum, and @orianthi, for a night that I will NEVER forget![/b][/color]

I was there last night guys. Adam exceeded even my very lofty expectations. He is absolutely amazing live. Not only his singing, but also his dancing and ability to interact with the crowd. He is without a doubt a natural born performer. The crowd was really into it all, and Adam was definitely feeling the love--he was so smiley the whole night. I loved all of his dance moves, his ability to feel and move with the music is uncanny--it's hard for me to explain, but he justs seems to "live" the music, and it comes across in his performance. I don't know how anyone could watch him perform and come away unmoved.
During IIHY he was bouncing and getting the crowd clapping and it was so much fun. Mad World and WLL were awesome, and afterwards he and Tommy and Monte were all pointing at each other getting the crowd to cheer for each other. So cute, I hope someone got that on video!
My favs--well I loved it all, but Aftermath was gorgeous, and SFW, Strut and Fever were all fantastic.

Hi everyone. Amazing show last night. My ears are completely blown. I gave my second row spot to the girl behind me so she could video WLL. I know she got the whole thing and will email it to me. I'll get it posted once I get it. IT WAS EPIC!

Unfortunately sound at the front pretty much sucked. Adam did come through loud and clear but the monitors were booming and distracting.

I have to get rolling back to Lansing but will be back on later.
SueB' date='Jun 19th 2010, 10:44 AM

Sound in the balcony wasn't very good, either. I don't know if it's just because my hearing is lousy when it's really noisy, or if it's because the sound system was poor, but I heard a lot of distortion and over-amplification, it seeemed really loud. I couldn't make out the words of most of the songs if I didn't already know them.

I also could have done without the really bright flashing strobe lights! My eyes are sort of light sensitive and I had to close them when the strobes went off. Gah!

Excellent reviews thus far! I was at the show yesterday too and I will try to fill in any gaps from my experience.

Myself and my 2 friends arrived at Royal Oak at approximately 5:15pm, and went to the back of the VIP line (which appeared to be even longer than the regular line). There I was in my glory with my zebra tie, fingerless gloves, vest, sunglasses and my studded wallet chain - not typical how I usually dress but it was fun to get dressed up for a change!! The line we were in was actually great because we were near a bus in which we saw Allison come out of, Longineau walked around and took pics with some people in line, We saw Tommy come out toward the back about 2 or 3 times, saw Brooke walking towards the back of the venue. Was so great to see and definitely added to the excitement of the evening! Funny, we saw an exercise cycle go back to the main bus that Allison was on and some people freaked, wondering who's it may be. :haha:

We made some friends with some fans in front of us, 3 ladies- 2 from Michigan and 1 from Arizona! They were a riot and it helped also pass time by having such cool ladies with us to talk to.

Once we were let in, we made our way to the main floor but it was already half way full which would NOT work for us as the people I was with any myself are very short (I am the tallest at 5'4), so we booted it up the balcony. After a quick washroom break, I had a change of heart. I grabbed my friends and we went back down to the main floor and waited on the 2nd level while the main filled up. One it did, we parked it on the stairs that separate the main floor and the 2nd floor, resulting in a dead center, perfect view! Coincidentally, we followed this method with Lady gaga last year and it worked perfectly AGAIN!

I won't get to the actual concert as it's been perfectly described already, I would have nothing to really add to that department because it truly has all been said (although I could go on and on and on)! One thing in particular I did notice though is how slim everybody is!!! Am I the only one who noticed that when seeing Adam and the crew live? Like mentioned, not too much Adam/Tommy moments, but Monte definitely got the spotlight in terms of the band. He is outstanding! Adam was just beyond everything that I could have ever expected. It was an incredible show!! I would go back in a heartbeat if I could!

Once the show ended, we went outside and it was spitting rain, but it quickly died down, so we walked back to the parking garage, so at least we thought... I turned the wrong way and we ended up taking the extended route (around the other side of the building). Guess what we saw on the way back? Adam's bus!!! It was in a different spot than the other bus we saw earlier in line. There were about 50 people all at the side, but we were across the street because it was the best view to see everything. We saw all than dancers come out and wave. Terrance, walked behind us because he was trying to use his cell phone and wanted a better reception or perhaps a little quiet and privacy. Taylor had a huge grin when coming out. Brooke was beautiful. Longineau then came out and signed autographs and shook hands (mine included). He was incredibly personable and friendly. However, I was kinda annoyed at an oncoming car that slowed down when they saw Longineau crossing the street to see us, the people in the car didn't know who he was and said "Who the f___ is this guy?" Little did they know! And Longineau and us just ignored the comment anyways as they drove away.

Then, about 1 hour after the show, standing outside, we saw Adam come out and go to the bus. We were about 30 feet away. Perfect view. I felt bad for the people on his side of the street because they had to standing down the sidewalk, but it would have prevented a good view, if any. Since we were exactly right against the sidewalk on the other side of the street, we could see perfectly. Adam walked by smiled, waved and looked at us across the street and did the same and said thank you. He was wearing more casual clothing obviously than what he wore on stage and not the previous outfit from outside earlier in the day. Looked like a light blue, graphic T and black jeans. Then, we waited just a little bit more and right in front of us while Adam was in the bus, he lifted the blind up and opened the window on the bus so we could see him (only a few of us even did because only the people across the street where we were could have seen). He did a funny, cute little grin and waved for about 10 seconds before closing the window and putting the blinds back up. Small, little interaction but it was worth it!! We decided to leave right after. I know many people on the other side of the street had things and I think they were hoping Adam would sign some stuff, but I doubted it would happen all along. What with the show, the conference call, crossing the border, heading to Toronto and such.
As we were walking back to the parking garage, we heard another scream but not near as loud as when Adam walked by. My friend said that they think they saw Tommy's hair, so I suppose that's who it may have been. Once we got back into Windsor 20 minutes later, my friends and I were starving so we went to a restaurant on Huron Church Rd. (the main street that once coming into Windsor, ON Canada - border city from Detroit, you have to drive on to hit the 401 via to Toronto)... unless of course, they took the Sarnia route. I sat right at the glass window facing the street so I could see the busses and trucks if they drove by (don't laugh, you'd do it too!) :haha: We did not see them however, and then I drove my friends home and went home. Of course I saw later on at 4am on Twitter that Monte said that they just crossed the border.

Man, I am exhausted. I've got a blister on my right heel and my voice is sore and my abs from screaming so much but I would have paid 5x the amount to see it all over again. In fact, my new friends from Arizona said she has tickets for me to see him there if I am interested (and possible meet and greet). I just think I may have to take her up on that offer!!! :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: :flowers:

Sorry, long post, but if I remember any more details, I'll edit them in. I just didn't see anything about after the show, so I owe to to the Lamb Skanks to contribute!

UGH. If any of you read my tweet in the "do you think it will be easy to meet him" thread, I posted that Liz Hill, Allison's bass player, tweeted me a couple of weeks ago, and said she wanted me to tweet her when I got there, so she could come out and say hi! Well, I tweeted before I left, since I don't have a cell phone, and told her what time I'd be there at.

I got a tweet this morning from Liz, and she said she came out and searched the lines for me after the time that I told her we'd be there, so that she could meet me, but she couldn't find me. :( SUCKS. I was really excited to meet her.

Hi all!

I just wanted to post my review/commentary on the Royal Oak concert now that I've fully recovered! :-)

I arrived at the theatre at 7:20 am and was a little shocked to find myself already at number 31! Numerous fans had camped out over night and swflboy :-) was right in front of me in the line at 29 which was an awesome coincidence :flowers: (he made the all day wait much more fun!). The line didn't grow too much before 12 or so but it started to build and we made some trips out to check out the busses (we briefly chatted with Allison, Tommy and Longineu who all looked a bit sleepy but happy and friendly). The line was pretty calm and collected till a few women started protesting the whole idea of the line and claimed that they would rush the stage no matter what. But we held strong in line and despite all of the last minute stress (many people tried to cut in line right before we were all let in at 8pm) and there were radio contest winners who unfortunately got in first and thus got front row positions in front of all the sad ladies who'd camped out all night! We got into the venue and somehow ended up right in the center 2nd row! Allison was great and seemed to have a slightly longer set (less than Toledo when she was the only opener) and she was really wailing and sounded amazing :-). Orianthi was okay (I'm not a big fan) and really played the guitar well -- strangely the security guards were standing right in front of her (in the gap between the rail and stage) and blocked some of the view and people from the venue were selling drinks right in front of the stage (I got a water because it was crazy hot in there) while she was performing... it was pretty clear that everyone was there to see Adam!

It seemed like an eternity between sets--and I don't think he even took the stage till after 11 pm (we'd been let in right around 8 pm). The frenzy of hte crowd definitely increased exponentially when his image was proejcted on the screen... I was thoroughly pushed, squeezed, squashed, etc. but as soon as Adam came on I just kept thinking -- OMG this was soooooo worth it! I had been pretty close up in Toledo (3 or 4 people back also near the center), but this was almost right at the front and he seemed sooo much closer and more otherwordly (he was literally glowing because the lighting was amazing :)). Vocally he was on fire and I loved how often he smiled and seemd to feed off teh raucous energy of the packed crowd! I felt totally transported the whole time even though my body was squeezed--luckily being that close and having his voice belt through me was a totally out of body experience :-). I felt like he made direct eyecontact with me about 5 times - he seemed to be really scanning the crowd and taking it all in! I really appreciated the dancers and how well each song flowed into eachother this time :-). Was a bit dissapointed he cut out Broken Open (it was awesome in Toledo) but was thrilled when he did both encores and sounded amazing! I feel so lucky to have gone and to have met such nice people in line--swflboy and his family were so kind and generous and it was such a great day that I'll never forget!

I hope all the skanks here get the chance to go and see how unbelievable he is live! I wish I could go to more shows because I can't imagine a more awesome way to spend a day!

Sadly they were very intense about video and cameras and threatened to confiscate them and were policing the crowd pretty diligently -- so I failed to get even a single video or picture!! but a few people on twitter are saying that the venue website will post professional photos and maybe even some videos so let's hope for that!

Here are some of the pics I took that turned out!

This is the marquee, you can see some of the line on the sidewalk. This was taken about 6:00:

Image

The line! This was the VIP line, when we joined it it was already halfway down the block on the west side of the building. By the time this picture was taken it went all the way down the block and I think started wrapping around the corner. That's Allison's bus in the rear of the shot.

By this time it was about 87 degrees and pretty hot, but fortunately there was a building across the street that blocked the sun so we didn't get baked.

Longineau stopped by for a few autographs and pics:

Here's the crowd waiting for Adam to appear. This was taken from the balcony, as you can see it was packed!

Image

Adam performs Voodo and DTRH. These are kinda blurry but they show what the lasers looked like!

Image

Image

Adam performs Sleepwalker. If you look to the left of the stage (Adam's right) you can see the guy who spent all three sets doing every song in sign language! I'm not sure if they do this at every show, but I thought it was pretty neat:

I enjoyed every second of my ROMT adventure-from sleeping on the concrete, to meeting new friends, seeing some of you for the second time now-and seeing Adam from the first row, just feet from him, dead center-I'd camp out for a week for that same experience again!!

Are any of you going to Cleveland, Lansing, Chesaning, Indy?

BTW I have two extra tickets to Clowes Hall in Indy. I just pulled them off Stubhub. I'd rather sell them (face value) to a fellow skank. Main floor, row M. $43.00 each!

Here is the picture of us with Orianthi. You'll have to excuse my unshaven and melted look....that's what you get when you roll out of bed at 6:30am and drive directly to the venue to get in line. I promise I did shower and shave later....and get a little glammed up.

P.S. Ori smelled really nice!
