Idol worship for glam god Adam Lambert
By Lauren Carter / Review
Saturday, August 21, 2010
Teenage girls love Adam Lambert. So do grandmothers. And drag queens. And middle-aged women. And 12-year-old boys who came with their entire family.
Friday night’s show at South Shore Music Circus explained why.
The “American Idol” runner-up delivered a maxed-out, consummate performance that suggested he’ll be playing a venue three times as large next time he comes around. And he managed to do what Aretha Franklin could not a few weeks prior: Sell out the venue and create a frenzy in the process.
A Glambert appearance isn’t just a performance, it’s a phenomenon of sorts. Fans of all shapes and sizes - mind-bogglingly so - come to witness not just Lambert’s impressive vocal histrionics, but the glitzy fever that comes along with it. In terms of screams alone, Lambert owned the venue from the moment he appeared at tent’s edge wearing a purple fur coat and feathered top hat.
His 70-minute set, which felt like it could have lasted comfortably for another half hour, was a dazzling mix of punk, disco, funk, synthpop and rock - mixed with feathers, leather and asymmetrical haircuts.
Drawing mostly from Lambert’s debut album, “For Your Entertainment,” the show took some twists and turns, from the disco dark tones of the opener “Voodoo,” which led to “Down the Rabbit Hole” and “Fever,” to the hyper-pop of “If I Had You” and the meditative “Streetwalker.”*
Mid-set, Lambert took to a stool for a stripped-down “Whataya Want From Me,” an acoustic “Aftermath,” and a piano-assisted “Soaked,” by far the night’s best display of vocal power.
In between strutting around the stage (during “Strut,” for example) Lambert joined his dancers in choreography, eliciting shrieks every time he popped a hip or shoulder.
Guitar-wielding Orianthi displayed some impressive guitar licks and abrasive pop-rock on “According to Him” and “Shut Up and Kiss Me.” Even more impressive was fellow “American Idol” alum Allison Iraheta, who channeled a Janis Joplin-esque sound to open the show.
Adam Lambert, with Allison Iraheta and Orianthi. At South Shore Music Circus, Cohasset, last night.

"@adamlambert @Monterrific @TommyJoeRatliff @Longineu @UhHuhHerMusic So, another circus tent, another show! What a fabulous venue! It feels so much more intimate in the Hyannis and Cohasset venues than it did in the other locations, like Concord, Providence...these circus tents must have been a total bitch for you to stage and perform the show, but they were lusciously delicious for us as fans to watch!
So totally cool to be so close to each of you, and to actually see you as individuals right in front of us! The larger venues with the full staging somehow seems to have you more removed from us, probably because you are up above us on a raised stage and because you are further away.
I loved this close-up show SO much!!! I felt like I was in your living room attending a private concert! Honestly, I loved it that much. All I heard afterwards from the group of friends I was with was more in the same vein, so it was unanimous!
It was also amazing to see Cam and Long so clearly for the first time...that was a huge treat! Also, seeing Brooke, Sasha, Taylor and Terrance...4 gorgeous people who were right THERE in front of our faces!
Thank you so much for taking on the challenge that these venues presented...you passed with flying colours! I felt like I got to see all of you so much more and so much better...loved loved loved the intimacy of the shows"!

Amazing show last night.....as usual!!! This was my 2nd glam nation show, but closest i've ever been to the myth, the man, the legend. 8th row..... amazing, unreal, beyond words. Loved the hair and makeup last night. I think Suz was close to me based on the angle of her vids. wish i could have met her but met some other really cool fans. Right next to me was the fan who grabbed the glam buldge during the Ryan Rock My Town show. She was a trip! The place was soooo loud. Lots of love for Adam.
The funniest part was when someone threw a very large pink padded bra on stage. He picked it up and stared at it and said "You guys should be ashamed of yourseld. TJ Maxx??" Then he flung back into the audience. It was a riot. Then Monte had a white lace one, and Adam mouthed, "that's better" with a smirk. During his dance with Brooke, "Is this Yoga?" But I'm sure you saw it all in the vids. He is such a character.
The round venue was definitely cool, but I won't lie, I wish he was front and center all night sad.gif At least the back side is nice to look at too.
No signings at the bus sad.gif He never comes out at my shows sad.gif Maybe someday! It was very orderly and not a ton of people so i don't know why he didn't come. Saw Tommy and Monte for a few seconds but they didn't come over either. Maybe it was the noise ordinance.
Sucks coming down off the high. I have a few pics but i don't know how to add them......

When I told people at work I was going to these past 2 Adam shows, most commented "you don't strike me as an Idol fan." I told them I wasn't, I'm an Adam fan.

American Idol': Adam Lambert visits children's hospital prior to show

Adam: staying charitable.

Someone should give former "American Idol" singer Adam Lambert a medal for this one. In the midst of a busy Glam Nation Tour (one that he personally admits to have taken a toll on him), the man still found the time to put a smile on some children's faces.
Adam talked a little bit about the visit in a post Friday on his Twitter account:
"Just visited Children's Hospital in Boston. Good reminder to appreciate life's value. Those kids have such incredible spirits in the face of illness. I'm inspired."
Adam also claims to be feeling inspired in another way, as he is now planning to work on getting some songs on paper for a new album (which he would like to release in the first half of next year).

Just got home from my friend's house, this was a really fun concert. I now have an inordinate number of pictures of the back of Adam's head. :haha: I was in one of the sections that had a pole in front of it, plus he really seemed to favor the other side of the stage, so yeah. I attempted to take video, but everyone was standing and I was near the back so it didn't really work. I have most of Sleepwalker but I think I accidentally hit the power button because the camera turned off in the middle of filming. :| So once again the only good video I got was the test video I took of Allison. :lmao:
This was the first time I saw Orianthi, I didn't think she was too bad, but the guitar solos got really repetitive after awhile. I took a lot of pictures of her hot drummer. His mohawk was sparkly and had glow in the dark tips.
I'll have more to say later, and if I got any decent pictures I'll post them here. I liked the venue but I definitely would have been annoyed with it if this was the only show I got to this summer. Because it was just kind of strange, and there weren't even screens so you could see him when he had his back turned to you. Which is annoying when you can't see his face a good 70% of the time. (Like I said, I was behind a pole, so it blocked part of the stage.) But yeah, overall it was a good show, he sounded awesome, and everyone had a good time. Nothing was going to live up to Providence for me (bet you're all shocked :haha: ), so yeah. It was a great way to end my summer though.
