These pictures pretty much sum it up. We were crammed in like sardines and the place was packed for Adam! When he first came on stage and saw it for himself, he actually nodded and had this precious smile on his face of satisfaction? validation? destiny? I don't know....just kinda like "This is it. I'm where I'm supposed to be and doing what I'm supposed to be doing". It's hard to explain but I think when he sees a crowd this huge and gets so much energy and love from this many people maybe he realizes how big he's really becoming? Like I said, hard to explain.
It was so funny....when he told everyone to dance....thousands of people danced and when he told everyone to jump up and down with him...literally THOUSANDS of people on the field were jumping up and down with our arms in the air singing along with him and Adam was like :w00t: You could see it all over his face...he was just so JOYFUL and ECSTATICALLY HAPPY!
CastroFan4Life' date='Sep 19th 2010, 2:37 AM

THIS. I seriously cried the entire way home after witnessing it. Honestly, it can't even be put into words. It was like we were all just watching something incredible/magical happening. We (Adam fans) all kept looking at each other on the field, shaking our heads and grinning from ear to ear because we just couldn't believe what was happening. We were strangers and we there we were hugging each other because we were all so overwhelmed and so happy for him. And the looks on Adam's face throughout the show....like I said SHEER JOY. I sense that he knew it was a watershed, big moment.
CastroFan4Life' date='Sep 19th 2010, 4:13 AM

A couple other observations:
-There were ALOT of young kids in the audience and alot of them were very visible to him (several little children on their dad's shoulders right up front by the stage bopping their heads and waving at him) so he kept the show very "family friendly"...at one point Tommy kinda flirted with him and he joked "This is a family show!". He didn't do any overt sexual moves, say any cuss words, etc. He was very smart....he recognized the audience he was playing to & adjusted.
-He did a precious, very sweet wave during "WDYWFM" and I wonder if he's waving at one of the children up front (because they kept waving at him)
-On the way out, one girl was commenting how much she respected him saying that the main focus of the show was about love and spreading love & joy & self-acceptance and that his songs weren't all "dirty" or about sex. She was saying what a beautiful message he's trying to send.

The show was amazing. :spaz: Adam kept it very family friendly but still managed to make it unf worthy :D~.

The game itself wasn't totally full but there were a lot of people. Once I got down to the line for the stage doors there was already a huge line. :fear: After the game ended people were pushing, running, etc. on to the field. (including myself :ph34rwave: )

The GA crowd was insane. I looked back a couple of times and couldn't even see where it ended. Amazing show. o:)

Here's one of the pictures I got, it's only one but I have a lot better ones.

General Lambert and the Glam Nation Invade Tropicana Field

It was kind of funny to hear Depeche Mode's "Precious" being played before the beginning of Saturdays night's Tampa Bay Rays/Hess Express Saturday Night Concert Series event with Glam rocker Adam Lambert. More for the fact it set the pace of the evening where our master of disguises, Mr. Lambert himself showed us why he is going to be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

And as soon as he came onto stage tonight it was evident why people see him as a hybrid of so many great legends of music all rolled into one. Lambert has the stage presence of Elton John the wardrobe changes of Cher, boosted by a voice that seems to scream the late Freddie Mercury of Queen.

Boosted by enough glitter on himself and his costumes to make even a Mardi Gras float jealous, it was his voice that made you forget some of his stage distractions and concentrate on a few lyrics and songs we have come to associate just with the theatrical vocalist.

And his theatrics on stage both through his stage riser in the center of the stage mixed with a brisk and totally popping choreographed dance segments push the envelope between both an audio and visual extravaganza that makes you take a step back and collect your breath, then begin to sing along with the singer on his tunes that have shocked, awed and also entertained us ever since he broke off the American Idol stage.

And we definitely got the PG-rated show because of the impressionable youth in the crowd, but the diversity of the crowd definitely shows that Lambert is crossing all type of boundaries and stereotypes to entertain and push his Glam Nation prerogatives towards some new listens. And I kind of like his style of thrusting his views and opinions at you with gusto, but keeping his on stage image bordering on the brink of surreal.

But just as you begin to pigeon-hole him within an androgynous segment of music with his tunes like " Strut" or "For Your Entertainment", Lambert does a 180 degree turn and pushes your ears and eyes into another define direction. And that is why I compare Lambert to the always theatrical Mercury.

That zest and energy to attack the vocals and invite musical accompaniment to throw the eyes and ears into different angles and directions while still tapping your foot or clapping your hands to the beat.
Another section of music that Lambert has seemed to attack with vengeance is acoustic sets of music to his songs like "Whataya Want From Me" and even "Time for Miracles" which was featured in the movie "2012". When Lambert goes into his acoustic sets, you really get a great indication of the unfolding talent and incredible vocal range he is exploring more every day.

Sometimes his musical mannerisms and moves on stage did seem to play more towards Broadway than pop culture. But if you are not entertained at a Lambert show, then you came into it with a closed mind. He reminds me of some of the classic 80's groups like The Pet Shop Boys or even Depeche Mode in his booming bass lines and rhythms that take you beyond the lyrics. If you are not into club music or have an allergy for glitter, than Lambert will not be your cup of tea.

But as someone who pushed his way through Punk Rock and the explosion of both experimental techno music and electronic enhanced music, Lambert is a lion pretending to be a kitten. In this way, Lambert reminds me with a huge splash of David Bowie with the pronounced sexuality and bravado, but with lyrics that catch your attention.

All you have to do is hit up any music site and click on a small snippet of "If I Had You" and you will see that someday, the whole world could be come a Glam Nation colony.

And Lambert definitely takes you on a sensory explosion with the color hues of his stage show with high accents on purple, aquamarine and even a pinkish burst here and there for added dimensions. It made it a bit difficult to get perfect shots with the always changing background colors and formatting, but that was also part of the "Glam Nation experience".

Lambert definitely can put you off by his many wardrobe changes (I lost track at four) during his performances, but we have already concluded, that is Lambert's ultimate intention. All your sense have to be ready for overload if you are ever going to enjoy Lambert's theatrical and vocal sideshow.

But his costumes were all done in the basic black format of most of the gone, but not forgotten Punk Rock groups. With the splash of hues of aqua, purple and red, the outfits somehow took a life of their own at times.

I was a bit upset he did not have a chance to include his past duet with Allison Iraheta, who opened for him tonight. They do an incredible rendition of Foghat's "Slow Ride" that definitely takes me back to the late 1970's Sunday night at the Drive-In with my friends.

I came into this show expecting to be impressed, and I was quickly blown away by the vocal range and the true artistry of Lambert's band and dancers. Might have been over the top for a few moments as Lambert had to remind one of his guitarist it was a "PG show", but well worth staying here until the Witching Hour.

The diversity of the crowd was not even apparent once the music began and everyone began to sway and use their cellphones to record photos or video moments of the concert. Was a great peek into one of the artists that might help shape the future of rock as we know it today.

Still curious as to how the Rays grounds crew are going to get all that silver metallic glitter up before Sunday's game. Not to worry, I think we are going to be talking about this show long after the last tinsel or freckle of glitter is gone.

Comment from the 10 review :
StPeteRickster wrote:
Was NEVER an American Idol fan, but AFTER Adam made his run on AI, I had heard a version of a song he had done for the show and decided to investigate him as a singer.

First off, his run on AI was just incredible. Had gone back and watched EVERY performance he gave, and to think he was belting this stuff out LIVE was incredible, to me.

The original song I heard that he covered was 'If I Can't Have You', for 'Disco Night' on AI and he did an unbelievable job with the song. Changed it up enough to make it his own and it really showcased his range, his power and his passion.

Other favorites from his AI run were 'Play That Funky Music' and 'One'.

His album was pretty good, but the subsequent release of the UK version had 4 newer tracks on it, and IMO, those 4 tracks are even better than than the original album. Tells me he is getting better as he goes along.

4 and a half octave range, just frigging incredible voice. Don't really dig all the 'glam' stuff, isn't my thing. Probably kept me from going to see him.

To me, it was awesome to see him develop on AI, before he got all made up and stuff. The black nail polish and eye liner didn't bug me, but he gets all glittered up and stuff. I don't think he needs that.

Liked him as he was and still do. I think his BEST style is doing Rock and hope that he moves more in THAT direction.

Guy has a voice like none I have heard, people compare it Freddie Mercury, which is premature, but not totally unfair, either.

Am glad to see him hitting it big, his album is really good dance and party music. Couple ballads, couple rock tunes - eclectic collection.

He don't need all the glam and props - just SING, Adam.
And note Bret Michaels is in concert this coming Saturday...will be watching to see how many stay for him. He just finished playing the Puyallup Fair.

Love and lust on the field as Adam Lambert rocks the Tro
September 20, 2010 at 10:16 am by Rabid Nick Refer
http://blogs.creativeloafing.com/dailyloaf/

IMG_1810In his fans’ minds, he is their empath, a conduit to some kind of electrical force that powers their bodies, their minds. He of course is glam rocker and American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert, who lit up Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL Saturday night. To them he is the tribe leader, a charismatic marvel and power source. Of course, it’s well known it doesn’t take much to power RABID cougars and eleventeen-year-olds. Just ask Justin Bieber. Mystic electrical outlet or not, Mr. Lambert rocked the Trop after the Rays’ 10th-inning squeaker of a ball game.

Much like when Katy Perry came to town, the sexual energy hung densely in the air as the Glam Nation anxiously awaited their hero in the moist heat surrounding the stage. The cougars were in dire need of their Lambert fix. After a short, cute opening set by another Idol alum, and Fraggle lookalike Allison Iraheta , their wishes were granted. Adam took the stage near 11:30, but the excited glam brethren who’d been waiting in tight, cramped hallways for hours showed no weakness. Their eyeliner newly retouched, undersized shirts matted neatly to their skin, they howled with glee as the controversial rocker took the stage.

IMG_1812Attired in an epic ensemble out of a demented Wonderland that even Alice wouldn’t recognize, Lambert began his set with a medley of tunes that should have made his American CD release (Voodoo/Down the Rabbit Hole/Ring of Fire), but didn’t. Not that his RABID fan-base had any trouble with the lyrics. Through the power of the internet, everything the boy’s ever belted is available to all “Lamberghinis.” Racing through tracks both raucous (’Fever’) and intimate (’Soaked’), the master of glam and apparent energy provider never missed a beat. It was obvious his tightly wound set was intended to produce a hazy, love-powered clublike atmosphere in the vastness of a sports stadium. The effect wasn’t lost.

The young performer deserves more credit than the TMZ and lifestyle “news” the media reports on. His hour-plus show included full choreography, costume changes, and the kicker: real, honest-to-goodness singing. While so many of his peers resort to lip-synching with such a lavish production, Lambert gives his fans the real deal, which is something commendable in his generation of pre-packaged pop. Sadly, his flamboyance and courage to do what he wants, when he wants to do it, is the only story much of the media like to share.

IMG_1819During his time connected to his electrically tapped fans, Adam Lambert preached to his flock, selling a story of love and peace. No matter what colors the media or hate-filled sycophants paint him in, Lambert spreads nothing but the contrary to all those who’ll actually listen. Fortunately it seems the message is spreading. The Rays drawing an attendance of 32,000 on the night of the show is no coincidence.

The positivity amongst those smashed together on the field was infectious. So much so, that the ordeal of getting in line to enter the field was easily forgotten. The concert series at The Trop may be successful, but it doesn’t always show. The haphazard, dangerous and downright horrific assembly of setting up where concertgoers would be herded like RABID cattle was brutal. It seemed as if this were the very first time they’d performed such a duty, not one of the final shows of the season.

An entire review could be produced, based solely on the ineptitude of the crowd management, but the excellence of the performer and of the show the fans were provided superseded that.

Perhaps it is true, then, that Adam Lambert is some form of higher power, the energy he provides conquering the hate, the ill press, the mistreatment of the fans.
In the end it was love that decided the real game winner at the Trop [/b]

The Rays did a write up on their summer concert page.
They got one thing wrong (Adam did not sing "FYE") but the rest of it is glowing.

Adam Lambert

After an electrifying comeback by the Tampa Bay Rays to take a 4-3 10th inning victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Saturday, August 18, Adam Lambert really lit up the stage as the Rays Summer Concert Series continued. Lambert, best known for his vocal range and unpredictable performance style did not disappoint the 31,896 fans on hand at Tropicana Field. Following his "Idol" co-star Allison Irahetta, his stage show brought thrills, frills and fantastic vocals to adoring fans. As part of his first headlining performance in the Tampa Bay area, he played an amazing hour-long set with an acoustic version of his current smash hit "Whataya Want From Me," as well as his first single "For Your Entertainment," while also mixing in multiple costume changes and daring dance moves.
