MANILA, THE PHILLIPINES

Tonight’s show is at the Mall OF ASIA Concert Grounds

The Philippines, officially known as the Republic of the Philippines. is a country in Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean. Its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire and its tropical climate make the Philippines prone to earthquakes and typhoons but have also endowed the country with natural resources and made it one of the richest areas of biodiversity in the world. The Phillipines consists of archipelago comprising 7,107 islands.

With an estimated population of about 92 million people, the Philippines is the world's 12th most populous country. An additional 11 million Filipinos live overseas. Multiple ethnicities and cultures are found throughout the islands. In prehistoric times, Negritos were some of the archipelago's earliest inhabitants. They were followed by successive waves of Austronesian peoples who brought with them influences from Malay, Hindu, and Islamic cultures. Trade introduced Chinese cultural influences.

The arrival of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 marked the beginning of an era of Spanish interest and eventual dominance. Manila emerged as the Asian hub of the Manila–Acapulco galleon fleet. Missionary work led to widespread Christianity. As the 19th century gave way to the 20th, there followed in quick succession the short-lived Philippine Revolution, the Spanish-American War, and the Philippine-American War. In the aftermath, the United States replaced Spain as the dominant power. Aside from the period of Japanese occupation, the United States retained sovereignty over the islands until the end of World War II when the Philippines gained independence. The United States bequeathed to the Philippines the English language and a stronger affinity for Western culture.

The national economy of the Philippines is the 48th largest in the world, with an estimated 2009 gross domestic product (nominal) of $161 billion. Primary exports include semiconductors and electronic products, transport equipment, garments, copper products, petroleum products, coconut oil, and fruits. Major trading partners include China, Japan, the United States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia.

MANILA
With a population of 1,660,714 Manila proper is the second most populous city in the Philippines behind neighboring Quezon City. The city's inhabitants, however, inhabit an area of only 38.55 square kilometers, making Manila not only the most densely populated city in the Philippines but also the most densely populated city in the world.

Manila's economy is diverse and multifaceted. With its excellent protected harbor, Manila serves as the nation's chief seaport. In addition, it is a major publishing center for the Philippines. Tourism is also a thriving industry. Being one of the major tourist destinations in the country, the city attracts over 1 million visitors from all over the world annually.

A look at where we are tonight

THE VENUE
SM Mall of Asia is the 3rd largest shopping mall in the Philippines and the 4th[1] (Ref. Forbes' World's 10 Largest Shopping Malls) largest shopping mall in the world. A roundabout was constructed in the front of the mall with a huge bronze globe similar to that of the Universal Studios Theme Parks and the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Park in New York City. On November 18, 2009, the globe was turned into an LED Globe also known as GlobAmaze. The first and only full global video display in Asia with its high resolution and full display graphics made possible by the LED’s 26,300 pieces of point lights. This cutting edge LED technology is among other things, weather-proof, has superior brightness, and a long lifetime.

The Main Mall includes shopping and dining establishments and the food court. The Entertainment Mall is a two-story complex, a majority of which is open-air, facing Manila Bay.

The mall's 5,000 parking spaces are divided across two, six-story parking buildings conveniently designated the North and South parking buildings. The South Parking building houses the mall's official SM Department Store, while the mall's supermarket, the SM Hypermarket is located within the North Parking building.

One of the mall's somewhat-unique features is a 20-seater tram traveling around the mall grounds to ferry shoppers around.
One of the mall’s main attractions is the first ever IMAX theater in the country, along with a Director's Club Theater for intimate screenings (30 La-Z-Boy seats), a Premiere Cinema, and the CenterStage Cinema which can used for live musical concerts and theatrical performances. The San Miguel-Coca-Cola IMAX Theatre is one of the world's biggest IMAX screens in 3D.

In addition to the mall's special theaters, it also has six regular two-tiered movie theaters similar to the ones found in almost every SM Supermall.

The mall features the Philippines's first Olympic-sized ice skating rink.

Forecast is High of 88 Low 81 with scattered thunderstorms

Venue is combination of seated (VIP and Gold areas) and GA standing only.

Estimates of capacity range from 50,000 to 70,000...they are expecting 15-20,000.

Only PROFFESIONAL cameras are prohibited ( :ohyeah: )

Will teens be able to watch
Adam Lambert’s Manila show?

Is it true that the forthcoming concert of "American Idol" Season 8 runner up Adam Lambert on Oct. 10 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds might be "For Adults Only?"

Reportedly, there are certain groups complaining that Adam doesn’t hold wholesome live performances. In one of his recent concerts in the US, he was said to have kissed on the lips a good-looking male fan in the audience.

If teenagers 18 and below are out to watch Adam’s Manila concert, it wouldn’t be nice for them to see Adam repeat his act and kiss a Filipino male in the crowd.

Since the very talented Adam joined "American Idol," his gender has been an issue among the fans of the popular talent search show. Even if Adam had not been vocal about his questionable sexuality, he has captured millions of fans worldwide.

In a country like the Philippines where there are many conservative adults, there are parents who do not favor their teenage children to watch Adam Lambert live onstage. That’s why there are certain groups who will reportedly push for his concert not to push through or be "For Adults Only."

The singing idol has certainly lots of teenage fans, but crowd attendance will definitely be affected if the "For Adults Only" rule will be implemented for his show. Blue Dream Entertainment, producer of the show, has yet to issue a reaction regarding this development in his Manila show.
