'American Idols Live'
By Kevin C. Johnson
ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH POP MUSIC CRITIC
08/30/2009

After watching the latest “American Idols Live” tour play out at a packed Scottrade Center on Saturday night, it’s still impossible to fathom Kris Allen’s winning over Adam Lambert.

Then again, the wholesome Allen doesn’t sport black fingernail polish and eyeliner, and wasn’t itching to announce he was gay, something that for Lambert probably cost him the title.
Nonetheless, it was Lambert, not Allen, with all the star power during Saturday night’s show, bringing to town all the swagger and style we saw Lambert exhibit on the telecast.

Lambert, decked out in his usual Goth-inspired attire, was electric on Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” pure feline on David Bowie’s “Fame,” and poignant on Tears for Fears’ “Mad World.” Fellow finalist Allison Iraheta joined him for Foghat’s “Slow Ride,” though it was hard to take your eyes off Lambert.

The earnest Allen, who capped the show, couldn’t come close to comparing with serviceable songs such as his acoustic guitar rendering of Kanye West’s “Heartless,” the Beatles “Hey Jude,” and Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.”

We should expect something more from an “American Idol” winner than something that was just OK.

But before we got to Allen or Lambert, there were eight other “Idol” finalists to get through, sometimes resulting in something akin to a karaoke machine explosion. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing in this case.

Adhering to the tour’s usual format, the finalists took the stage in successive order from the bottom up, with the No. 10 finalist Michael Sarver performing first. He was quick to remind us why he didn’t advance past that tenth slot.

Megan Joy, often a curious mess on the show, pulled it together a bit for Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Let Your Hair Down” and Amy Winehouse’s “Tears Dry on Their Own,” not embarrassing herself.

Scott MacIntye, another mixed bag on the show, had his best moment on piano singing Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles,” while Lil Rounds came just shy of fully igniting during her Mary J. Blige medley of “Be Without You” and “Just Fine.” She took a huge risk with Beyonce’s “Single Ladies,” and like Joy, didn’t embarrass herself.

Anoop Desai was the night’s first real heartthrob to perform judging by the screams and incessant camera flashes during Willie Nelson’s “Always on My Mind,” Ne-Yo’s “Mad” and Bobby Brown’s “My Prerogative.”

Matt Girard came out blazing with a dazzling mix of voice and piano on Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle,” and kept the crowd’s attention with Ray Charles’ “Georgia On My Mind” and the Fray’s “You Found Me.”

Iraheta lit up “Pink’s “So What” and Heart’s “Barracuda,” and Danny Gokey did the same to Rascal Flatts’ “What Hurts the Most” and Michael Jackson’s “P.Y.T.”

The concert overall was an improvement over years’ past, with better production, graphics, and introduction of the singers.

And the mandatory group numbers and other various pairings were less “The Partridge Family” than usual.

I love this review- bringing it over from Adam Official
First, pics

http://s629.photobucket.com/albums/uu19/ih...m/idoltour2009/

My concert recap:
Met up with itsjuls, Beresfordlane, and cougaradamfan before the concert. Got a bite to eat…I think people thought we were crazy…everything was Adam, Adam, Adam. Honestly the anticipation was killing me. Couldn’t eat much. We all ordered a drink called an “Eroticolada”…thought it was appropriate since we were seeing Adam!
My seats were in the second row, although to be honest, I didn’t sit in mine almost the entire concert. Leaned up against the barrier…just barely two feet from the stage.
I don’t really have a lot to day about the first half, except to say that all except for Megan Joy were better than I thought they would be. Particularly Lil. She was really good…and her kids were there, too, they were standing off to the side of the stage while they were singing. From the looks on their faces, you could see they were really proud of their Mom.
Okay, fast forward to second half. Allison ROCKED it! She is going to have an amazing career. She’s really cute, she’s tiny, but she has a way bigger voice live than on TV. Danny was pretty good, too, I felt his speech (what some call a sermon) was not preachy at all and actually rather touching. But given what has happened to me, it really hit home.
Booms…thundering…screaming…the air in the Scottrade center, to me, noticeably thickened and became electric. And then there he was…in all his glory, all 6’1” of him…black emo hair, fabulous jacket, electric presence, wow….I felt like he had been punched in the gut…and that’s just when he was standing there. Whole Lotta Love was amazing, and yes, he did drop the mic stand, but handled it like a pro and made it sexy to boot. Starlight…I’ll be chasing his Starlight for the rest of my life….what an amazing song, so much emotion! He came way to stage right on that one…he was sooooo close….I just couldn’t breathe. He is just simply stunning. Slow Ride was really good…you can tell that Adam and Allison just plain have fun doing it. Bowie…what can I say that hasn’t been said. At one point, he was stage right again…swiveling those hips during Fame…..gahhhhhhhhhh……just mesmerizing!
Listed to Kris sing “Heartless”…and then headed for the barricades. It was a long wait, but well worth it (note: at this point I was REALLY glad I’d stuffed a pair of flat sandals in my purse, those heels were killing me). Allison came out first, then Megan, Scott, Matt, and then Adam. Don’t laugh…I couldn’t see him at first, but I could feel him.  He really took his time with each fan as he came down the line. I watched him closer an closer, honestly felt like I was in a dream. He came to me…as I was handing him my Rolling Stone, he touched my fingerless gloves and said “I like your gloves”…I actually think he said it twice…once when he took the magazine and once when he gave it back. He said “I like your shirt..it’s amazing.” I thanked him and told him I thought he was amazing and that I couldn’t wait for his solo tour. At this point, he put his hand on my arm, honestly, firmly enough that it felt like a embrace, looked deep in my eyes (what amazing eyes he has…you feel like you can literally see his soul), and said in that soft, sweet, sexy voice “Neither can I.” with a smile. I’ve got to tell you, I am still floating from that encounter.
I have to tell you, he really does have an aura that is physically something you can feel and almost see. The atmosphere feels warmer, thicker, and sweeter when he’s close to you. It’s honestly something I have never felt before in my life. He’s so full of love and light it’s just incredible.
And that is why I am floating on a cloud this morning. I am sooooo excited about his solo tour, and itsjuls, beresfordlane, and I were talking how about how great it is going to be when he is on his own.

WARNING: LONG REVIEW FOLLOWS (IN CASE YOU WANT TO SCROLL PAST IT)!!

I realize this review is more for me at this point, but I don't really care :shifty: I do apologize in advance for the length, though.

First of all, let me just say how grateful I am that the protestors did not show up in St. Louis, even though it was on their list.

So I was on a few missions Saturday - some I accomplished, some I did not. I got to the venue at 11:00 am, which I knew was silly because Adam wasn't going to come out, but what if he had decided to be his spontaneous self and make an appearance?!?! I would never forgive myself for not being there!! My main goal in going in the morning, though, was to give something I had for Adam to Ray, because I knew other people here had a good track record with him. Getting lost in Adam's amazingness helped me get through a very, very tough time, and I wanted to show my appreciation by making a donation to a cause I care about (and really really hope Adam does, too!!) and by giving Adam the donation notification accompanied by a sappy card. I actually gave him one of those quotable cards, and the quote? "You always look so cool." from F. Scott Fitzgerald. How perfect is that?!?!

Anyway, I could not stop laughing when I got to the barricades, because never in a million years (I've used that phrase a lot when it comes to Adam) would I have pictured myself going to an American Idol concert, much less doing the whole barricade thing. It was so strange being among people who were fangirls and fanboys (there were one or two) of the other Idols. I'd say about 100 people showed up. Danny Gokey had the most signs, and again I would laugh to myself because I just don't get how they could be hard core fans of anyone other than Adamit!! By the way, Ricky's contingent made up of four or five people was there. Had I only known what they had planned . . . .

Getting back to what actually happened . . . . I've been trying for weeks to come up with creative ways to get meet and greet passes, because I'm pathetically unconnected, but I failed every step of the way. So, in one last desperate attempt, I decided to suck up to a roadie who kept saying how lame everything about American Idol was yet had no problem basking in the attention he got for being part of the tour. He said some interesting things, but I don't know what he was making up and what was legit. He did say the roadies were keeping Adam's intimates on their trucks, which I don't understand because Adam seems to throw everything back in the audience, but maybe I'm mistaken. In the end, talking to him was an amusing way to pass the time, but he clearly wouldn't be willing to help my cause.

About four hours, huge amounts of pain, and hardly anyone new to the crowd later, Michael Sarver came out . . . . except Ray didn't come out with him!! :fear: I was freaking out because the a different security guard had come out, but I had to work with what I was given. So, while Sarver was out, I tried furiously to get the bodyguard's attention, which was not easy because even though I was one of the first to arrive, we had to move at one point and I ended up one row behing the front. For some reason, the girl in front of me decided to try to give my "gift" to Sarver, even though I told her I wanted to give it to the guard because I didn't think it was appropriate to give it to Sarver. Well, she went ahead and asked him anyway, and he said "No!!!!" I didn't care that he scorned me, but I was surprised because I've always gotten the impression that he always caters to the fans. I mean let's be honest, he can't afford to turn down fans at this point. Anyway, in the end I got the security guard's attention, and he agreed to take the gift. I IMMEDIATELY regretted that decision and felt like I should have held onto it for the after show barricade event, but it was too late. Side note - Matt was the only other one to come out.

After it was clear no one else was coming out, an Adam fan I met up with and I headed to the line for the official meet and greet just to check it out. And guess who was there . . . . Ray!! So I went up to him with this wild look in my eyes and told him that I had given something for Adam to another security guard but I had really wanted to give the gift to him because he's been so kind to Adam fans in the past. He looked at me like I was crazy, but said he would help me make sure Adam got it (I have a feeling he was just humoring me, though).

I was so tempted to try and buy passes off of some of the people who clearly didn't care that they were given such an honor, but I just couldn't work up the nerve or justify spending the money. The girl I was with and I did wait around after the meet and greet was over, though, to find out how Adam had his hair styled. And when I asked if he had emo or Elvis hair, the girl didn't know what I was talking about. Clearly not a good fan!! Anyway, after complaning ( ) about how quick the sign and slide was, one of the chosen ones showed me her pictures, and so of course my next goal was to rush home and let y'all know it was emo hair, even though I left my apartment to back downtown ten minutes later.

Okay, should I stop now or keep going?? If this is too much, though, I'll just save my thoughts in a Word document. I didn't know I'd have so much to say and I haven't even freaking gotten to the concert yet!!!! Sorry!!!!

Okay, I got two responses to my pre-show experience, so I'm running with it!!!!

So as for the show:
My seat was really bad, so I definitely feel like I didn't have the same experience that many of you have had. I'm so tempted to go to another show, but I absolutely cannot afford it. :( Here's what I observed from my crappy seat, though:

Michael - the back-up singers had some cute, cheesy dance moves during his set (if he didn't think animal abuse was a mistake, I might have something positive to say about him, but he does so I don't). I actually would have rather come late so I could get dinner, but I wanted to find out what this Ford Fusion contest was all about and I knew they showed the video before the show started.

Megan - I can't put it any better than madamimadam did; she really needs to find an identity. Her background was so much fun to watch, though. There were hopping bunnies!!!!

Scott - He was fine, I guess. I was pretty bored by this point and had focused most of my energy on coming up with cute tweets that never appeared  Seriously should have saved time to test that function before i went back to Scottrade

Lil - I was surprised her dancing was so weak, because the show's choreographer was supposedly in the audience, so I was expecting more from her.

Anoop - By this time, I had been eyeing this empty row I spotted closer to the stage, and I decided now was a good time to try to snag those seats. I caught some of his first song (I'm sorry, but it was so boring), but I got lost trying to find those seats and missed the rest of his set. I had to give up until intermission

Matt - His set was the first where I wasn't paying more attention to the background than the performer. I was really curious to find out why he's been getting such positive reviews, and I kind of get it. He doesn't have the strongest voice, but when you combine a decent voice with fierce piano playing, it makes for an appealing package. He said we were bringing it as much as anyone's hometown - I'd like to think that was true, but I don't know.

Group number - Beggin' was enjoyable, but that's about it.

So when intermission hit, I set out on Operation Move Closer to Get a Better View of Adam. I found the seats I had been watching like a hawk, and when I asked someone if anyone was sitting there, she said "It's funny, six people just showed up out of nowhere" They stole the seats I was going to steal!! Ugh, so I went back to my pathetic seat because, again, I was curious to see what all the buzz about Allison was about and I didn't want to miss any of her set.

Allison - She was better than I expected. Her voice didn't sound nearly as rough as it does on You Tube videos, so that was a pleasant surprise. And I was not expecting her to have the stage presence she did, so again, I kind of get the appeal.

Danny - You know, he has a really nice vibrato. And again, I was dreading the gruff voice, but it was relatively smooth. Having said that, he has no business attempting any mic stand tricks and I was bored as hell toward the end. And no Danny, I don't like being told how to feel.

OUR BOY - I got goosebumps listening to the screams for Adam. I was worried, because Missouri is a red state, but people seemed to appreciate Adam's amazingness. Now I'm typically very reserved, but when he walked out, I screamed! It just kind of came out - I felt like such a fangirl!!

I have to say, though, that I kind of regret watching his set from each concert before this one, because the element of surprise wasn't there as much as I would have liked. Having said all that, we all know how amazing he is at switching up his set for every show, and it was fun to see how he switched up this performance. But Frankie and Juliana - good move on holding back.

A few notes about "Whole Lotta Love" - The impromptu part when he tipped the mic stand over with his jacket during "Whole Lotta Love" was just beyond adorable, though!! Fallen mic aside his ability to handle the mic stand is like watching a choreographed dance - it's just amazing. As far as "woman" vs. "baby," I prefer "woman" and was expecting it. I got a huge kick out of the fact that he went with "baby" since I had kind of assumed he had gone back to "woman" for good. I just love his spontaneity!!

What is there to say about Adam's performance except that he was unbelievable? Gawd, his stage presence is just astounding, and his voice sounded absolutely gorgeous. Whatever I say won't be news, but he's just so amazing in every way. I feel so lucky to be following his career.

Okay, back to the show . . . . it's actually kind of a blur for the most part. I think the most my mind could handle was that I was in his presence. However, his vibrato moved me to tears in Starlight and when he sings "nervous" in "Mad World" . . . . I mean there's nothing like it. I so wish I had been close enough to see his facial expressions, though. Something appeared onstage during "Slow Ride," but no one acknowledged it and it magically disappeared (according to Pillow Lips stage crew took it - wtaf?!?!) before Bowie. "Life on Mars" is definitely my favorite part of his set, but of course I was too busy trying to get pictures to really appreciate it, and I was too far away to see those wonderfully subtle moves he makes during the song. I'm just so grateful there's up-close video of from various cities of his performance. I kind of thought the medley was tame, though others don't seem to agree. Plus, he didn't tell us to get out of our seats, which I hope means people were already out of their seats. I'm not gonna lie, I love it when he swears and was delusionally hoping for "bitches." When he did the "Fame" glory note, I'm pretty sure I screamed again, which is just so unlike me!! So except for telling you how much I loved his performance, I don't really have anything to add that hasn't been said - sorry!!

As far as the audience reaction - the Adam fans really showed him love, except my section was kind of lame, so I wish I could have been among more Adam fans, but I was thrilled that he got such a great reception overall.

I have to admit, I literally ran to get to the barricades the minute Adam sank into the floor. I would have liked to have seen at least one song from Kris, not to mention how much I wanted to see (and hear!!) Adam in his strangely appealing bedazzled outfit, but it was too risky. That's the primary reason I so wish I was going to another concert, but apparently the tour is not as popular in the Midwest as it is elsewhere.

Okay, so the part you actually care about - the barricades . . . . I met up with this really cool Adam fan and her poor boyfriend. We were one of the first ones there, and I can't tell you how much we agonized over where to stand. The decision was eventually made for us by pushy fans. We were able to vaguely hear the glory note from where we were, and I'm pretty sure we freaked her boyfriend out by how excited we got!! Anyway, we spent the hour and a half between the show and when Adam would (hopefully) come out going back and forth between trying to think of memorable things to say to him and trying to prepare ourselves for the possibility that he wouldn't come out. At one point people started chanting his name (don't worry, no one was out yet), and we were just like, "No!! don't do that, he doesn't like that!!" I was thrilled when they stopped. Allison came out first, and she just could not get out of there fast enough. Megan and Scott came out next to okay receptions.

And then, oh yes, Adam made an appearance. It felt like it took an hour for him to get to us even though it was probably 20 minutes - but for awhile I was convinced he really wasn't out and people were just playing a horrible trick. When we finally got our chance with him, my new friend told him how much she liked his jacket, and this is the part where I think I might have imagined most of it.

I know I said "Mazel Tov on all your success Adam," and I think he thanked me. Then I blurted out "I made a donation in your name and I left a card with your security guard earlier and would so appreciate it if you could read it." And I'm pretty sure he squeezed my hand and thanked me again. Oh my ra how I hope this actually happened. I saw some footage of the barricades that cuts off about 4 seconds before he got to us, so I'm hoping beyond hope that someone has photographic evidence that we actually had a conversation. If someone finds it, you will have my unending gratitude, and you can have the Kris headshot I bought on impulse :bleh: I was in such a daze that I couldn't even comprehend how absolutely beautiful he looked - again thank you to all those who took decent photos - you can't even tell it's him in the ones I took. He signed a picture Indybeck was kind enough to let me use and which I'm going to frame, though I think he would have been willing to sign more, and I am absolutely kicking myself that I didn't take advantage of that - in my dream he would have signed one of my favorite photos with the metallic sharpie I brought, but I couldn't work up the nerve to ask him if he would. And I sooooo wish I had remember to ask him if he's an animal lover or if he's into pets - anyone know???? I can't believe it's never been asked in an interview.

Adam was just so wonderful to each fan, and he looked so calm which was wonderful to see. Everytime people would start screaming his name, I freaked out because I know how much he hates that, but he seemed able to tune it all out. Yay earplugs!! After he left us, I gave up my spot at the barricades and tried to follow him as he went down the line. Of course I still never got one good shot, though I somehow managed to get a clear shot of Ray. Figures.
I think Danny came out around this point, too. Kris never came out, which surprised me because he didn't make an appearance in the afternoon either. Apparently he had family at the show, though. But you know what? Adam came out (yes I see the irony) and I'm so, so grateful. The fact that he acknowledged my donation meant the world, and I've been wanting to give him a huge Mazel Tov for so long!!

So aside from the failure in getting a more personal experience with Adam by scoring passes and having a horrible seat, I think I did the best I could to get the full concert experience. I know I'm repeating myself, but I feel so lucky to have been in Adam's presence, and I can't wait to continue his amazing journey with him.

Also, I'm so sorry that I didn't provide any tweets or media - I tried, I really did!! And seriously, if anyone wants the headshot I got of Kris, I'd be more than happy to send it to you.

that last video is mine. i have a review, but i didn't post it here. i think i will though

before: So, i was on the comp. trying to get good seats beforehand and I managed to get front row in the pod thing by the stage! ahh they were amazing seats! w00t!!!!!!! Anyway, I got there at like, 11:00 ish and Matt and Michael came out beforehand. I managed to get a pic. with Michael, but I couldn't get one with Matt b/c of the annoying ppl on either side of me. (the people on either side of me I had met at the concert last year, and the reason i was between them is b/c they both wanted pics with Kris, but they didn't want to stand next to each other so they could get it from farther away and not real close. and one of them was wearing a crown that said 21, b/c she had just turned 21 A COUPLE DAYS AGO! yet she was pretending like it was today to get the pic with Matt! then afterwards I hung out with one of them, b/c that's what I had done last year and the whole time she was complaining about how Kris didn't come out and how disappointed she was! i was like, it's not his job to come out! but she kept on complaining! ughh it was kinda annoying to say the least!)

THE CONCERT

Michael-Michael is amazing! he is really talented! He definitely should have placed higher than 10th! He got the crowd pumped! It was amazing!

Megan-ummm lets just say my opinion of her hasn't changed. She's a really nice girl, yet I still can't really stand her voice.... I will say though, that it was better than what I expected. oo and her hair was kinda ugly, i'm not a big fan of her afro lol! and i did clap along to her set! (actually i did for everyone who asked! b/c it makes the concert even more fun!!)

Scott-I thought Scott was amazing! I loved all of his songs! I loved his jokes too! they were hilarious! (the high-five heard around the world and simon being mean! haha!)

Lil-I thought she was good, but she was kinda worse than I expected. My mom and I were talking about this during intermission (so i know it's not just me), but we both found her kind of hard to understand. i could understand her on the last two songs b/c i knew them, but the first one was kinda hard to understand.

Anoop-ahh Anoop was amazing as well! i love the quality to his voice! and hahah to his tweet about the arch being half of a mickey d's sign! hahah

Matt-Matt was really good! He was a lot better then on the show and my mom agreed with me! I loved his version of You Found Me so much better than the original version! Yet, at this point I was getting really impatient for Allison and I still had to wait through all of intermission!

1st Group Song/Medley-I thought it was good. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either!

Allison-AHHHHHH!!!! She was amazing! I loved So What, and Cry Baby, and Barracuda! her set is way to short! it feels like she just comes out, runs around and then goes away again! i was so glad i had front row! Her voice is amazing! and her hair was really red and soo cool! i loved it! esp. having front row seats while Allison was singing!!! (although while she was doing her thing where she announced the top 3, some people behind us booed Kris. I was like uh-oh...)

Danny-so i will say, he was a lot better than I thought he would be. I actually liked him during the concert! I'm still not a huge fan, but tonight was def. an improvement!

Adam-Adam was amazing as well! He sounded great on the first song, the second song his voice sounded kind of weird on for a little while at the beginning but then it got better. After Mad World there was Slow Ride! ahhhhhhh soooooo fun! people threw some things on stage, but they didn't really mess with them this time... which was kinda disappointing b/c I love when they play with them! hahah

Kris-was amazing! (only the stupid glamberts (yes i know i'm a glambert) were so annoying behind b/c they started booing! so i gave them the death glare three times! and then they started like shouting at me saying something that i didn't hear, so i turned around and ignored them. they didn't really boo again, they would say adam at random times, and they talked throughout his entire set (which was soooo annoying!).) anyway, back to Kris-he was great! i loved his set! i love heartless, and the rest of them!

Don't Stop Believing-It was great! i love the group songs! I do on the show as well (even if they're cheesy sometimes... lol!) Allison's part was definitely the best! but the rest were great too! and then Allison and Megan did the chest bump at the end as always!

After the concert:

ahh okay, where to start. so i knew that i wouldn't be late b/c they were coming out in the lobby and they had to let people leave as well, so they couldn't barricade it off. so, i got a spot and i probably should have gone to the back b/c they were making everyone else go to the back, yet they didn't say anything to me after i scooted back a couple of steps, so i got to stay where i was. Then the wait began.

Apparently the people in front of me were also really big fans of Allison, so i was like uh-oh... but they said i could squeeze in after they got their picture! since i was like second row at the barricades! well guess what?

THE FIRST PEOPLE OUT WERE MEGAN AND ALLLISON FREAKING IRAHETA!!!! AHHHHHHH!!! so Megan started on our side, and Allison started on the other. I just kind put out paper and Megan ended up signing it! She is soo sweet! then ALLISON GOT CLOSER! so, when she got to us i gave her what i had brought for her! (i had bought some hot cheetos in the vending machine at my school (yes i'm cheap haha and sorry Ithiel, I know that was kinda your thing but I knew she loved them so yeah!) and a small brown and black beanie baby cat that i had tied a mini stl. hat on to that had come off of a stl. style cupcake from a friends b-day party! lol) so i gave her the cheetos and she was like, "for me?" and got really excited! and then i asked for a picture and she posed for a picture! it was amazing! she was making one of her silly faces and biting on the bag of cheetos! but somehow i managed to cut off like all of my face, and you can only see like my nose and one eye! i was really disappointed! so i gave her the cat and she again asked if it was for her, and i was like yup! then i asked if i could have another picture b/c i got cut out and she was like yeah! so she posed for another picture! she is sooo nice! ahhhh i love her! I’ll try to get the pictures up as soon as I can! As for video, I got clips of slow ride, so what, a small one of Cry Baby, Don’t Stop Believing, and maybe some Hey Jude. I’ll try to get them up as quickly as possible!

so, after that i was soo thrilled and really wouldn't have cared if anyone else came out, but ADAM CAME OUT! i got his autograph as well! and then the crowd loosened up! it was great! Matt came out again, Danny came out, and Scott came out! I got all of their autographs as well! Then the guy came out and said they were leaving so we left. The only ones that didn't come out at all were Kris, Lil, and Anoop. i think Lil's kids were there, b/c some small kids had gone down the ramp in the afternoon and someone said Kris had his wife there. I'm so glad they got to spend some time with their families!

AND I GOT TO MEET ALLISON and ADAM! WOOTT!!

Hey guys!
I've been lurking for awhile, but I wanted to post about seeing Adam in St. Louis last Saturday. I went to the show with my mom & my sister, and our seats were actually pretty good - we were in the section right above the floor seats in about the 11th row. St. Louis was definitely an Adam crowd...everyone would start screaming whenever his face showed up on the video screens. I was blown away by Adam's performance...he was amazing on AI, but he was incredible live! His set went by way too fast and before I knew it the show was over. We weren't planning on staying at the barricades, but my mom said we could once we saw that they were set up in the front area of the venue. We were about 3 rows back, but we got to move up when a few people in front of us decided to leave. Megan and Allison came out, and then Scott, Matt, and Danny came by a little later. All of the sudden I heard people start screaming Adam's name, but I couldn't see him yet. The girls in front of me said he was at the other end of the line, and within 5-10 minutes he was right there in front of me! :w00twave: I was surprisingly calm and was actually able to utter thank you after he signed my 8x10. He reached out and squeezed my hand and then he was off down the line. He is absolutely gorgeous in person...I couldn't stop staring at him! Overall, the whole concert was amazing and I'm so glad I got to meet Adam even if it was only for a second! I can't wait to see him again once he starts touring on his own!

I recorded Adam's entire set, but I still have to upload Slow Ride, the Bowie medley, and DSB to YouTube. I'll update this post once they're done, but here are my other videos for now:

Requested Recap from St. Louis Concert & After Party - I Met Adam AGAIN! w00t.gif

Sorry in advance, this is soooo long but I promise it's worth it. Ok, so I won't go into details on recapping the entire concert since this review is pretty late. I saw the concert for the first time in Tulsa, OK so this was my second time. Really, the first concert was a complete blur and I barely remember it! I was so busy tweeting and recording it that I barely watched it. This time I really wanted to fully absorb Adam's performance, and OMG was it insanely fantastic!! He has really changed up things vocally and performance wise since Tulsa, but they were equally amazing concerts. There was the usual screaming anytime a piece of him came on the screen before and during intermission. The other idols, well actually only Kris and Danny, got some love but it was definitely the craziest for bb! If I'm being fair actually, Danny got quite a bit of screaming.

WLL was much more sexually charged (yeah!) devil.gif in St. Louis and people were screaming their heads off. We got the crazy new side attack on the mic stand that he is doing and ALOT more stroking of it. I was there with my mom and my good friend and they were both like shocked.gif

Starlight was beautiful, although it did have that odd helium effect that I've heard people mention. The sound mixers have got some sort of effect on his voice during the song and it's quite noticeable especially at the beginning. It went away about 1/3 of the way through the song and I was really glad - he doesn't need ANY enhancements vocally because his voice is just gorgeous as it is.

Mad World nearly made me cry - he was soooo emotionally connected to the song and it felt like he was living through the lyrics as he was singing them. I thought I would be sick of it since he has performed it so many times, but honestly each time you hear him sing it - especially live - it just grabs your heart & soul. Stunning.

Slow Ride was alot of fun - he got a bra and something else I couldn't quite make out (I think panties LOL!) but he ignored them. He and Alli are just adorable and playful together, he was copying her quirky little arm movements and it was so cute. Their voices are just awesome together and they did the sweet little hug at the end. Even though the song is really repetitive, it's so fun to watch and listen to how they change it up to keep it fresh.

Bowie Medley - OH. DEAR. GOD. Really there are not enough words for it. It may have been a bit toned down compared to some of his part shows, but it was still GLORIOUS. Alot more hip and pelvis action than Tulsa saw, that's for sure. He was in incredible voice too! I love the interaction with the backup singers and bass player during Let's Dance - you can see that he is trying to get them to laugh. The crowd went ape$hit when he took his jacket off and almost everyone was standing up. Actually almost everyone stood through his whole set - not so at all with anyone else. It was kind of a dull crowd for the most part. If you are going to a concert, have fun and dance! Anyway, I digress... haha.gif

After Party: Well, I'm still in shock to be honest. I was fortunate enough to meet him in Tulsa and I couldn't believe I might be meeting him again. I arranged this trip for my mom for her birthday since she couldn't go to the Tulsa show. I knew there was a 50/50 chance he might not be at the after party, so I was pretty nervous all day. It was an amazing weekend and concert so we all would have been happy either way. When we got into the room, he was there and I swear I nearly crumbled to the floor! I am not someone who has ever had connections, nor this kind of luck, and I was about to squeal in delight when I saw him. There were alot more people at the party and honestly about 2/3 were lined up already to see him. Only he, Danny, Matt and Scott were in there - which made it even more incredible that he was there considering how few of them were. Kris was holding his own party and I didn't see any of the girls or Anoop. Michael was actually in the room for a few minutes but no one was talking to him - I felt terrible about that and we discussed going to him first, but I was scared Adam would be taken away before we got to him. They took him away really quickly in Tulsa. Michael was really nice when we met him in Tulsa and I did want to say hello again.

Back to Adam! We were about 15 people deep waiting for him. My friend Kelli talked to him first and had him sign my Entertainment Weekly magazine - they took a picture together and it was pretty quick because she didn't really know what to say. Then my mom talked to him - it was completely adorable because she was doing her whole mom thing, pointing to him where to sign and calling him sweetie when he tried to sign the wrong page. I didn't catch all of their conversation but she gave him a card (hmmm....suspiciously she wouldn't tell me what it said - I'm praying to god she didn't really ask him to marry me fear.gif - like she was joking about. She's knows his preference, but she likes to freak me out by saying stuff like that.) She did tell him that he was her birthday present - again, thank god she didn't ask him to put a bow on like she joked about...my mom was in rare form I tell ya! But he was so sweet and asked her if her birthday was that day, and she said no it was yesterday and he gave her a huge smile and wished her a happy birthday. Their pictures together are adorable, but she has threatened my life if I post them haha.gif

So it is my turn to talk to him, and I hand him 2 Rolling Stone's to sign and just sort of stare at him for a second before my brain starts working. He was wearing the grayish jeans with the hole in the thigh (yes, I noticed!) and the gray Legends Never Die shirt. His makeup was flawless! He looked so stunningly beautiful - he is the most incredible combination of manly hotness and feminine prettiness. I immediately started blushing, cuz that's what I do around sex gods, and then I try to start talking. In Tulsa, I was so nervous that I kept repeating how amazing he was - seriously, I said it like 5 times - it was so embarrassing. Thankfully, something clicked and I became coherent this time. I thanked him for signing my magazines and told him that last time I met him, I was too busy accessorizing before the concert and I forgot to bring the magazines with me. He started giggling (which wouldn't be the first time he did it) and said "I was admiring your shirt when you were waiting." Queue heart failure. I thanked him and told him I embellished it myself and he said "I LOVE IT! The peacock feather and the glitter - I LOVE IT!" (My shirt was a white vneck t-shirt with a black peacock feather printed on it that started at my shoulder and went down across the front. It was boring so I took black, blue and turquoise glitter paint and traced some of the feathers to make it sparkle.) I told him how I had glitter all over me from it and he giggled again. NOTE: He is a very affectionate person - he kept touching me on the arm or back or shoulder the whole time we were talking. And I kept petting him too, LOL! Then we talked about meeting at the Tulsa after party and he said "Yes, I remember you!" He said some more words, but by this point I was basically incoherent. Because not only had he noticed my shirt, but he remembered who I was!!! I'm certain he was sincere about that because I talked to him about Upright Cabaret in Tulsa and he doesn't just BS people. Amazingly enough, I kept talking and told him that last time I met him, I also forgot to tell him how awesome his set was and how much I loved the Bowie medley. He got super enthusiastic when I mentioned Bowie and thanked me. Again, he said more than this but I was only taking in about 1 of every 3 words he said given the fact that I was basically in shock. I told him how excited I was about his cd and he got all giddy again and said "It's coming in November!" I told him I knew, and he said "On November 24th!" I said "Really!?! I can't wait - I'll be buying it that day and everyone I know is going to be getting it for Christmas!" I got even more freaked out thinking I had just gotten some awesome inside info, because he hadn't officially announced that date yet. I didn't want to post it all over the place in case it changed, and it wasn't my place to tell, but then I saw someone else's recap from the Kansas City show and they spilled it. Then I told him I had a question and had been wondering why no one had asked him in an interview yet, and that was what his vocal range was. He said, "You know, I really don't know. I would guess maybe 3 octaves, I'm not sure." I'm kind of not surprised he didn't know, since he doesn't play an instrument. I think most vocalists know what their range is in steps, not octaves. Being a musician myself, I think his estimate is conservative and his range is closer to 4 octaves. We talked a little more and then I asked for a picture. He was completely adorable and sweet and genuine and I fell in more in love. He might be the most selfless, beautiful man I've ever met. heart.gif

After we talked to Adam, we talked to the others and took pictures. Matt Giruad was really funny, and he remembered me also. We talked about his piano playing because I was giving him a hard time at the Tulsa party for never having taken lessons, when I've taken them since I was 7. I told him how I had read that he likes to play the pianos at some of the hotel bars and that there was a vacant one at the Sheraton calling his name. He got kind of funny about it for a second, almost like holy crap - how do they know about that hotel - but then he got interested like he wanted to go find it. My spidey senses were tingling and I still wonder if they were staying there. It was directly across from the venue and it was a super nice hotel. We even saw 2 little girls dressed in Adam shirts and carrying an Adam poster in the hotel parking garage looking around. I never saw any of them in the hotel though. So Matt kept asking if the piano was really unattended and that he might have to come by and check it out. We had drinks in the bar afterwards and never saw him though!

Once everyone started to leave, we were looking back through the pics on my mom's camera and noticed that my picture with Adam didn't turn out. So we waited for everyone to finish talking to him and approached him again. I apologized and asked if we could have a re-do quickly and he was all smiley and said "Hey sure, come here!" I don't know what came over me, but I asked him if we could do a hug picture and he said "yes, of course!" You guys, whoa. I just don't even know. He is the PERFECT hugger. Prepare to $hit bricks - he was RUBBING MY BACK while we were hugging!!!!!! And I practically had my head on his shoulder. I nearly cried in delight. He's so cuddly and warm. I'm still on cloud 9!! I thanked him again, blushing and grinning like and idiot and we left.

Here are a couple pics - I'm resizing them all now because they are giant so I'll keep posting them. My friend has pictures also that I haven't gotten yet, so I'll post those at some point also. Her camera is better than the one my mom was using. I can't believe I'm posting mine because I look awful, I'm horribly unphotogenic and I swear I look better in person! Oh well, Adam is in them so they can't be that bad! haha.gif Thanks so much for reading this, I know it's stupid long but it was really fun to re-live it again. I will never forget that night!
