Hi all, just got back from the concert - it was incredible! My seats were far away, so it was hard to 'connect' to any of the idols the way the people in the front rows do, but OMG adam - he is simply amazing!!! I could not believe him on stage. The hardest part for me was how fast it went by and how much of a blur it was.

This isn't a review - I will work on that after this post - but I just wanted to pop in and say hi. So let me post this, and then get down to the review. I will NOT remember minute details - it was overwhelming on so many levels :haha:
'fangurl1964' date='Sep 15th 2009, 7:58 AM'

So, here is my review of the Idol concert in Syracuse:

My sister and I got to the venue around 5pm or so, so we stood around a short barricade near the buses, killing time, waiting to get inside the Oncenter. Nothing exciting about that. Once they finally started letting people in, we got in line to go inside. We spotted a girl who was dressed like Adam - right down to the gloves. She was a Glambert, but I don't remember which number. We didn't talk to her, but my sister asked if she could take her picture. There were a few glamberts there in the crowd - saw the t-shirts etc. After the show, talked with one of the glams from Hamilton, so that was cool too, but I digress.

So my sister and I got to the venue, I bought a program and glossy photos of Kris and Adam, just in case. We went to our seats, way in the back, and got ready to watch the show.

Michael was awesome on stage - I was really surprised, and the crowd seemed to like him. Megan is really pretty to see and it looked like she cut her hair. Lil didn't really strike me one way or the other. Scott and Matt both impressed me with their piano playing, and with their singing. And Anoop - I loved Anoop's voice. I could have listened to him all day, seriously. All of these idols, in my opinion, got plenty of lovin' from the Syracuse crowd. One advantage to being in the back of the venue is being able to see the crowd react as a whole - and I felt that Syracuse loved them all. There was lots of noise in house, or it seemed that way to me anyway. I don't have anything else to compare it too, but noisy is noise, you know?

Intermission: When we came back from intermission, we spied three or four empty seats in a better section along the sides. I asked the security guy in our section if we could go there, but he hemmed and hawed on that. But just the same I talked to him for awhile - turns out he knew folks up around where I live, and well, you know how that goes - he told me to go see 'that woman down there' and tell her Bill sent us. So we got those better seats after all, LOL. Thanks Bill!

Now in better seats, we settled in. Allison came out, and boy she seems like a ball of fire in person. I loved listening to her sing. Her set was fun to watch. The crowd loved her too. Danny sounded good to me, but the set DID seem long. The crowd continued in its lovin' on all the idols, and of course, I went right along with everyone else screaming and yelling like a fool.

And then it was Adam. His set went by SO fast, and was such a blur, but OMFG, he is beautiful. I had binoculars people, and I used them. I saw him and all the idols up close and personal, so to speak. His WLL was awesome and I can't wait for the vids to see it again; I thought he said Woman, although someone commented maybe it was honey? I do know he said backdoor man, stroked the mic stand, and had elvis hair. Beyond that, it isn't sinking in yet, LOL. His voice does sound different in person than on all the youtube vids; there was a very soft, almost feminine quality to the Starlight and Madworld, IMHO - just breathtaking. His Bowie medley just blew me away - but then it always does, as it is my personal favorite. Those body rolls are something else. And don't get me started on the hip gyrations!! UNF! I simply cannot wait for his own tour, plain and simple. And slowride was fun as always - I love the chemistry between those two, it is really cool to watch.

Kris was awesome. Although people did sit down more for his set, I think it was the flavor of his set more than him, because there were times where alot of people were standing, and he got plenty of screams and yells there tonight. I loved his set in person; he sounded very good I thought, and I really liked Hey Jude as well.

The whole DSB thing was fun to watch - seeing Kradam come out of the floor was a cool thing in person. I don't remember much of this song though; I was fiddling with my sisters camera or something. We had mad trouble with our cameras - both of them died on us, and we were not happy! So no good pics from us at all.

And then I did the thing I never thought I would do: barricades. My sister and I ran into a friend of hers who was there with her daughter - they had been there at the concert venue all day. We found our spot with them, and was maybe 3 back, but eventually got to 2 back. The daughter of the friend was up front, so she took my tour book and got autographs from Kris, Danny and Matt, when they came out. I did say to Matt "you were awesome in there tonight" and he did look at me and smile, so that made me happy. Kris blew by pretty fast, as did Danny. Kris really is short, lol! Noone else came out, so we packed it in and headed home.

It was an amazing experience, and I am so glad we did the barricades after - seeing these guys in person, even if I didn't actually speak with them, was amazing. It makes them all seem so real, you know? I just wish Adam would have come out - that would have been my crowning acheivement in life, LOL.

I am sure this hasn't been very coherent, but it's late and I am really tired now, so not thinking very clearly :haha:

So really quick recap...I'll do a full one in the morning. I loved Adam's Elvis hair, he looked fierce and sounded awesome. I started hyperventilating when his intro was playing and shaking when he came out. His whole set went by so fast, and the helium in Starlight and Mad World was annoying. Loved Slow Ride, and the Bowie Medley was fantastic. I'm off to bed now!

omg!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been wanting to write this review since I got back, but my internet chose that moment to die on me. MAJOR FAIL. But anyway, here I am at school and I have 15 minutes to write about the most amazing day in my life!! :D

Ok, so Heidi already tweeted about the major events that went on but I wanna add on some details here. So we got to the venue around 12:30 am and saw the buses as well as the tour trucks. I took a picture of that, but I'm gonna upload it later.

We waited and talked to some other people who were there already. Then Heidi and I went to get lunch at Panini's. It's so funny cuz on their door there was a paper saying "OPEN TILL LATE BECAUSE OF IDOL'S SHOW TONIGHT" or something like that. It was pretty rad. We went to the counter and chatted about the Idols with the woman who took our orders. I asked her if she had any favorites and she was like : my daughter is a huge Adam fan! Then we raved about Adam for a bit and it was RAD! lol :P

So after we went back to the barricades with our food, a tiny barrier was set up and people were already behind it. It was SO FREAKING TINY though, like maybe 3 meters? We managed to squeeze to the front, but there was a huge pole there blocking our view. A few minutes later the buses pulled in beside us and I was so freaking excited lol. The Idols started to come out one by one. Danny was the first to come out of the bus. He waved to us and went inside.

Then Allison came out and she had problems with her luggage. It had to be wrapped up in duct tape LOL. I told her we guessed the luggage was hers because the bags were red, like her hair. LOL. She laughed. She didn't sign right away, just kept going from the bus to the venue.

Megan was the first to come to us and sign. She's so pretty in person. I asked her how long it took to get the whole tattoo on her arm and she was like : Two years, mama!
LOL. She was funny. I got her autograph on the back of my RS and then a picture.

Then Allison came to sign, and Lil came too. I got pictures with both of them.

Matt was the first of the guys to come sign. He was really cool! One of the fans got a hug from him cuz she said she was his biggest fan LOL. She kept touching his arm too. :haha:

Kris came out from the venue. We didn't see him get off the bus, so I guess there's another door on the other side of the bus that we can't see, and they can get out from there too. We asked the security guards if Adam was on the bus, and they kept telling us yes, but I seriously had my doubts. One of the guys didn't even know who Adam was. FAIL.

So anyways Kris came and he was in a hurry. I got an autograph but no pictures. Then Scott came out with his mom and they were both SO SWEET! I loved talking to him, cuz he actually smiles and answers lol. We took a picture together, and he's really tall too. He actually rubbed my back during the picture and I was all like awwww...

Then Danny came, and he's the sweetest thing too! He was so nice LOL. I didn't expect that so I was so surprised. I told him I liked his hat and asked him where he got it, and he said Targets. :haha: Then he signed the back of my RS and I got a picture with him.

Michael came out to sign too, and he said that Adam would not be coming out. He sounded really sure about that.

We then saw one of the event staff, and Heidi called him over and explained the Lamb Skanks charity card. He checked everything to make sure it was legit, and then he came back out with passes to the pre show meet and greet. I couldn't freaking believe it was happening! He led us into the front of the venue where a guy explained the rules (only 1 autograph per person) and we were ushered in. We stood at the end of the line cuz the guy said he was going to ask Adam to personally come talk with us. I was like freaking out so bad!!!!

At first I didn't see him sitting at the table cuz Scott was blocking him, but then Scott leaned back and...
o
m
f
g
I was pretty sure my world stopped at that moment... I'm not sure it has resumed yet... I'm still in shock as I'm typing this. Like.. he is so much prettier in person! His hair was slicked back and he looked absolutely stunning. I couldn't freaking breathe. Sandy kept telling me to calm down, and saying that he's just a "dude" and I was like.. NO HES NOT JUST A DUDE, HES ADAM FREAKING LAMBERT!

GOSH!

When it was my turn and he looked at me...:omg: :omg: :omg: His eyes are the prettiest and deepest eyes I've ever seen. They made me melt so bad. I was shaking and I was freaking out and then I was rambling to him about how great he is and what a huge fan I am LOL. And the whole time he was smiling and going "aww thanks" - DEAD- Then I handed him the RS and he was like : what's your name? And I told him Wendy. And he was like : how do you spell that? and I told him obediently. Then he wrote Wendy, you rock! and he signed and I FREAKING DIED AGAIN!! I told him how much I loved the article, and that my favorite line was the "Im gonna glue rhinestones on my eyelids, bitch!" line. And he laughed lmfao! OMFG!

AND THEN, I was like : Adam, can I shake your hand?" and he said sure! OMFG!!!!!!!!! His hand is HUGE! :shifty: He took my hand in his and put his other hand on top of it. :o I think I was about to faint at that moment!!! I freaking touched Adam Lambert and Adam Lambert touched me back! wtf! I was in heaven!

After that I went into a daze... talked to Allison about dying my hair red... didn't really talk to the other Idols. I couldn't think.

After that Adam came to find us and taped the video to the Lamb Skanks that you all saw. After that we took the group picture. :w00t: And then I got to hand him my gift in person. Then I asked him if he was alright, and he said still a little sick. :( I asked him if they knew what bug it was and he said just the common flu. Aww! Felt sad for him. I had a billion other things I'm sure I wanted to say but 1. I didn't remember any of it and 2. He had to go.

So that's it. BUT IT WAS AMAZING!!!! :D :D :D Im pretty sure I looked like an idiot the whoole time but I don't freaking care! I GOT TO MEET ADAM LAMBERT OMFG!!

um, this will be continued, I gotta go to class now. Will post pictures later too! :D

Thank you!!!! And I know!! He was extremely sweet with us!!! I love him so much, and at least now you know that he loves us too! :shifty:

Well, maybe I'm biased here but I think the Syracuse Whole Lotta Love was the BEST he's ever done, especially because of the stripper move. I love how you guys already uploaded all these videos, they are awesome! I didn't take any because I wanted to be in the moment fully. LOL, right after he did the stripper move I told Heidi she HAD to tweet that and make you guys freak out hahaha! He was awesomely hot! And of course the Bowie Medley was amazing with the fedora and all the extra hip thrusts! I did throw him a white boa onstage at the beginning of Life on Mars, but someone else threw a red boa and it landed right next to mine. I guess he didn't want to choose one, so he didn't use either. He's really sweet! <3

Starlight was other worldly! I was totally hyptonized! He's had the whole tour to perfect that song, and I truly think he is spot on vocally with that song right now. He sounded SO good. :o Towards the end when he left the mic, he came towards us while doing a little drunk step! It was hilarious. I'm sure you can see it on the videos. At first I was :fear: cuz I thought he was gonna fall. But naw he was teasing us.

And of course I can see why Simon gave him a standing o for Mad World. :haha: It was won-der-ful. So deep, so much emotion! I felt like crying. :'( His voice really is magical! And it's so so much better live! It has this ethereal quality to it.

Slow Ride was fun!! It was good to see him bending back over Allison's back. I can't believe how damn flexible that man is!

Anyway, I did stay for the whole set. Then after we went out to the barricades and only Kris, Danny and Matt came out. I think Danny recognized me cuz he was being extra friendly. I still can't believe how nice he was LOL

Adam didn't come out, but there was a HUGE poster of him leaning against the wall outside. And he signed it too. I have a picture of it. So everyone just lined up and took a picture with the fake Adam LOL. Oh well, it was life sized, so it was better than nothing haha! It truly felt like an Adam Lambert show. Eevryone around me had Adam pictures and were Adam fans LOL.

I'm so proud of him!

ETA : OH YES!! And he sang "honey" during WLL which he's never done before!! I was spazzing so hard the security guard had to push me back to my seat!

The Post-StandardAdam Lambert performs at the War Memorial in Syracuse Monday night. The gang from American Idol 8 was at the War Memorial in Syracuse Monday night for the second-to-last show of their two-plus month tour and it was clear from the jump that this year, there were some significant changes in the production. Gone was the tin foil set of yesteryear, replaced by a rather plain Jane stage with a center riser from which several of the performers rose playing pianos.

This year, it appeared that a good portion of the production cost went to lighting. The set included a huge digital panel, which punctuated the show from time to time with blasts of light and also provided background graphics that were supposed to somehow match the ambiance of each of the performances.

The concert format was fairly straightforward. The contestants performed in the order in which they were eliminated on the show, starting with Michael Sarver and ending with Kris Allen. Because of this reverse-elimination lineup, this year's show really felt like two separate concerts, the first half being a mix of slightly stale pop and R&B and the second some pretty impressive rock 'n roll. This fact alone made it pretty evident that, for the most part, the voters got it right.

Michael Sarver got things started with two songs, Gavin DeGraw's "I Just Want a Girl" and Ne-Yo's "Closer." He was enthusiastic, urging the crowd to "make some noise," but after having had him tell me only a few hours before the show that he was going to record a country album, these song choices didn't really fit the singer he wants to be.

Still, two months on the road have really seasoned Michael and he was confident and strutted his stuff like a pro. In my notes I wrote, "I wonder if I would have enjoyed his set as much if I hadn't met him earlier in the day!" We'll never know, now, will we?

Megan Joy was next with Corrine Bailey Rae's "Put Your Records On" and Amy Winehouse's "Tears Dry on Their Own." She was dressed in a very short hot pink cocktail dress with pink stilettos, and her hair, which used to be one of her best features, has been cut short, dyed blonde, and straightened to within an inch of its life. Megan has improved vocally, however, but I found myself hoping she would "Caw" or something.

By the end of Megan's set, I was laughing almost hysterically. I know she doesn't take herself all that seriously and I wonder if her set is almost a parody of what TPTB expected her to be on the show? Interesting idea.

Scott MacIntyre was the first to rise up on the "piano platform" in the center of the stage. He did justice to both Keane's "Bend and Break" and Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles." Scott is a competent piano player, and like Michael, the months on the road have really tightened up his performing skills. I enjoyed Scott's set a lot. He doesn't have best voice, but his love of music transcends that. I smiled the whole time he was onstage.

The next three performers were allowed three songs each. Lil Rounds opened with "Be Without You/Just Fine" (Mary J. Blige), which was a good choice for her vocal range. She then took on Alicia Keys' "No One" and closed with Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It). Lil did a halfway decent job with "No One," but it didn't help that I had watched Beyonce absolutely kill "Single Ladies" Sunday night on the VMAs. Lil's no Beyonce, but she held her own and got in a little booty shaking of her own.

Anoop Desai opened with my favorite of his performances on the show, Willie Nelson's "Always on My Mind," followed by Ne-Yo's "Mad," and closed with Bobby Brown's "My Perogative." Anoop's vocals are clean but I'm still not quite sure I'm buying him as an R&B artist. The women sitting behind me said he looked just like their employer's (a doctor) son. They weren't buying him as a sexy R&B singer either.

My pick for Most Improved, Matt Giraud, was last up in the first half of the show. He opened with a rip-roaring version of "Hard Too Handle," tearing up the piano and the stage. He is much looser than he ever was on the TV show and seemed to be having the most fun of any of the first half performers.

Matt segued into "Georgia," which was a bit too stark a contrast to the previous song. Sorry, Matt, but it was a little boring. He saved himself with The Fray's "You Found Me." The audience sang along and all was well in Idol-land!

The first half closed with a rather odd collection of duets and group numbers. Megan and Lil's duet of "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" didn't mesh at all, but Scott and Matt did a bit of dueling pianos on Billy Joel's "Tell Her About It." I understand this was supposed to have been part of the finale, but was cut due to time constraints. Too bad, because it was quite good.

Michael came out singing "Suspicious Minds," and was joined by Matt, Scott, Lil, Anoop, and Megan to close the first half with "Beggin." I was amused watching Michael doing the "doo-wop" hand motions during this one, again, thinking of his comments about America not having a chance to see the "real" Michael Sarver. Too bad he couldn't have chosen songs that would be a bit more in line with what he really wants to sing.

After a 20-minute intermission that stretched to at least 30, Allison came roaring out on the stage with an electric guitar on Pink's "So What." I found it interesting to watch this somewhat shy girl transform into a rock siren! Allison followed that up with Janis Joplin's "Cry Baby." Wow. She prowled the stage and tore this one up! Allison closed with Heart's "Barracuda," which she ripped to shreds!

Danny Gokey followed Allison, opening with Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T.(Pretty Young Thing)" followed by Santana's "Maria, Maria." In both songs he did quite a bit of dancing, not particularly well, but with great fervor! He followed this with two Rascal Flatts' songs, "What Hurts the Most" and "My Wish" broken with an inspirational talk about not letting tragedy stop us from our dreams.

When Danny finished, the audience in Syracuse began to roar and stomp, knowing Adam Lambert was next. Kudos to the lighting crew for ramping things up with explosions of light to bring Adam to the stage. He opened with Led Zepplin's "Whole Lot of Love" in which he gyrated, twisted, and pranced the audience into a frenzy. He followed that with Muse's "Starlight," a rather obscure song that highlighted his head voice. Adam is an amazing performer and draws on his theatrical background to create a rock 'n roll character that is very convincing.

But it was his version of "Mad World" that impressed me the most. Sitting on a stool with a spotlight, he sold this song to the audience once again, bringing that same element of mystery and surprise he brought to the performance on Idol.

Allison joined Adam for a reprieve of their "Slow Ride" duet. It was outstanding! They've really perfected this one, complete with some back-to-back grinds that had the women in the audience positively swooning. During this one, Adam toyed with the audience, tossing back items that had been thrown up on the stage (a black bra, some kind of little whip, and a yellow feather boa).

Adam closed with a David Bowie medley, including "Life on Mars." "Fame," and "Let's Dance." He certainly did not hold back on the dance moves, and showed he is, well, quite flexible! His voice seemed a bit strained on this one, most likely due to his having been sick over the weekend. Still, he was outstanding and left the audience was chanting his name as a curtain dropped in anticipation of Kris Allen's performance.

After Adam's theatrics, Kris Allen's set seemed a tad anti-climatic. Still, his repertoire was solid, and included a much richer version of "Heartless," The Killers' "All These Things I've Done," which replaced "No Boundaries," a solid rendition of "Ain't No Sunshine," and Matchbox 20's "Bright Lights" on which he kicked some serious butt on guitar.

Kris closed his set with "Hey Jude," getting the audience involved, and then bringing the rest of the Idols back out on the stage. Without even faking an ending, the group launched into Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" intermingled with a chorus of "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye."

The Idols will close their tour Tuesday in Manchester, N.H. On Wednesday, the scatter to the winds, their Idol journey over. Adam, Kris, Danny, and Allison have signed record deals and will be getting their albums ready for release. Michael seems to have a deal in the works and I've heard Matt's been approached to play keyboards for a well-known band.

Scott has produced an album of his own that he will be releasing later this fall and Anoop is going to continue to pursue a record deal. Megan is said to be considering modeling. There's no word as to what Lil has planned.

To all of this year's group, thanks and best wishes for your future success. It's been a fun ride!
