In addition to presenting the Style Award, Adam Lambert was nominated for an award himself. He was nominated for the Music Artist category for his support of The Trevor Project, in which he donated proceeds from his "Aftermath Remix" and joined the "It Gets Better" campaign with a video encouraging LGBT teens to rise above bullying. Unfortunately, despite persistent voting by his fans, Adam lost the Music Artist award to Justin Bieber.
Hosted by Jane Lynch, the 2011 Do Something Awards honored five young people for their commitment to social action. Sarah Cronk won the $100,000 grand prize for co-founding the "Sparkle Effect," the first high school-based inclusive cheerleading squad in the nation.
Adam Lambert says celebrities have a ‘duty’ to help causes, charities (Video)

Adam Lambert never holds back and he knows just how important the spotlight can be for a message. As part of the Do Something Awards on Thursday night airing on VH1, the entertainer shares just how important it is for stars to get involved in helping causes.
Calling it a ‘duty’ the celebrity seems to feel that people who have the spotlight needs to share it with causes and charities that are bigger than the entertainers, especially ones that need help. Making a whole lot of sense, the star has a valid point that could really push social, health and justice issues to the forefront of everyone’s mind.
“I think as celebrities it is our duty to lend our visibility and notoriety to causes to greater than ourselves. That is something I am trying to do this year. This award show celebrates that,” said Adam Lambert.
There are a number of causes that are highlighted in Hollywood thanks to the lending of the spotlight, but more celebrities could take the initiative like Lambert and instead of just raking in the cash and fame, spread a little good will. Interestingly enough, the teen entertainers and the older celebrities have stepped up, but there are about a half of a dozen younger actors and actresses right now that have squandered both the spotlight and the fame with no interest in being part of any solution. Hopefully, they will take a minute to heed Adam Lambert’s advice.
