Poll: What's Your Choice for the Second Single?

Post by DerekMcG »

While I expect first single "Ghost Town" to be around for a good long while yet (after all, it's nowhere near having peaked!), I thought it would be fun to poll everyone on their choice for next single.

Please bear in mind when casting your vote that I'm not asking you to choose your favorite song on TOH; rather, I'm asking you to select the song you feel has the most commercial appeal.

Only ten choices were allowed for this poll. I've included two of the bonus tracks---even though it's unlikely that either of these would ever be chosen by Warners*---and excluded "Lucy" (as I can't imagine a rock song being selected), along with my beloved but admittedly non-commercial "Heavy Fire."

Have fun, and don't forget to post your rationale (if you're so inclined ::smile:: ).

The poll will expire on July 16, 2015.

*That didn't stop Yahoo Music's Lyndsey Parker from including "These Boys" in her single picks.

The Original High

I think it should be the next single because of its bright, liquid and fresh sound, a description that could also apply to NCOE, but TOH is much more original and personal. It also really shows off Adam's vocal skills. I'm sure it would be a powerful late summer hit. The last time I had this feeling was when I listened to WWFM when FYE just came out.

Hi Glamton: "bright, liquid and fresh sound" says it all! Exactly my reasoning ::smile::

It's just such a perfectly constructed and unique song. I felt the same way about "Shady," but this song would have much broader appeal, I feel.

Mind you, if Warners and Adam ultimately opt for Another Lonely Night, I wouldn't be heartbroken. I was quite moved while listening to it earlier this evening, and I certainly appreciate its appeal to many fans.

But I think ALN is more predictable than The Original High. The latter would be a braver choice, and go a long way to establishing an Adam Signature Sound, I feel.

Besides, I'm with Adam's father: if TOH isn't a hit, Eber tweeted, "then drive a stake through Pop's over-compressed heart." ::haha::

The Original High of course!

Few reasons. I think just the fact that it all started from this song and is a basically a summary of the whole album is good enough reason. But the song itself has everything - the melody, the beat, the hook and Adam's unique voice front and center.

I'm 99% sure that it WILL be a next single and I agree with you Derek, that it would be good for the late summer hit. It does feel "summery" besides the obvious "summer in Hollywood" lyrics.

I wouldn't be heartbroken about any song as a next single as I think they are all great, but I think TOH has more potential.

"Wisely" is an interesting choice of word, and I've noticed that several reviewers have mentioned "Rumors" as a potential smash.

I wasn't that keen on the song initially, but it quickly grew on me---mainly because of its plaintive Nordic element---and I now think it would be an excellent third single for strategic reasons as well as artistic ones. (After TOH, of course ::smile:: ) My fourth single choice would then be ALN.

::yes:: I think this would be a good order. And I also wasn't too keen on Rumors at first, but it grows on me and yes, it could do well for all the reasons mentioned above.

ETA: I'm kind of torn between EITN and ALN though. I think EITN has more potential even though ALN seemingly is more popular right now. I think fierce Adam fans are more drawn to ALN but the mainstream public could be more interested in EITN. And it's also has great potential for performing live. I was just squeeing in delight watching GMA performance of this song! It reminds me of Born to be Wild on AI and THAT was my favorite.
Also IF Rumors is second single - EITN has more different vibe from it than ALN. Just my 2 cents.

Well, I'll probably be the only one ::laughing:: but my pick is TISI. Yes, it is my favorite, but, I'm thinking in terms of a hit here. TISI, is a fantastic ballad, and very, very, main stream. The lyrics alone will appeal to the masses, and ballads have done extremely well for Sam Smith & Ed Sheeran and others. It's a song that fits other genres, rock, pop, adult contemporary and possibly even appeal to country fans.

TOH, I think will appeal more overseas although it is hard to say just what it would do here in Canada & the US. I like an awful lot of what is coming out of the UK, of course, I always have, but a lot of the music coming out of Canada & the US is awful these days so it is very hard for me to judge. They seem to all sound the same, too much autotune, and singers that really can't sing. But that JMO. ::smile::

Thank goodness for Adam, with his diversity and incredible vocals. ::wub::

TISI is a great song and personally I'd probably have it as 3rd single instead of Rumors. However IMHO and I'm certainly not a specialist - ballads are doing well in US and Canada only when they're coming from UK singers.

That tells you how much I listen to the music from here and the US these days! ::haha::

Been really listening to Rumors, & TOH so they both could be a choice for a 2nd single. Since I like them all, it's hard to really choose between the two. ::smile::

ETA.....I don't think Underground, EITN, & ALN will be released as singles as they have already been officially released on You Tube. But what do I know. ::haha::

My first choice would be EITN and the original high would be next. I certainly would be very happy with either one of those two. Adam has some great songs on this album and it's hard to choose.

No way TISI. Adam wants to be a mainstream pop star, so no Ballads. Sorry you well never hear "I am a grown ass man" on US Pop Radio lol. Sorry just cannot see it fitting. I think Adam needs a dance pop song for the summer. So my pick is TOH or ALN, Surprised no one picked ALN, its prob his potentially best commercial song, easy listning too. I don't think Evil in the night well ever be a single too, not 2nd anyway. And saying a single is on YT so wont be a radio single Ayye? lol that makes no sense. All of the singles are on Youtube. It is out of TOH or ALN clearly. And no to Rumours, Tove Lo has a single coming out, so that would most likely clash.

Derek . . . this is TOO HARD!!! :-) So many potential hits on this album . . . it's an embarrassment of riches! I chose TOH because it's so perfect . . .Rumors has grown on me a lot too . . . that might be my second choice, then EITN or ALN. I'm so in love with The Light and Heavy Fire, and wish that pop songs didn't have to fit in such a tight box, because they're SO GOOD!

These Boys is a BT haha so prob won't be a single. Most likely TOH, TIDS, and ALN prob best potential singles, with Rumours.

You may be right about TISI. Never thought about the "I am a grown ass man", but some of the country songs have said similar words, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens down the road. ::grin::

The reason I didn't think the UG ,EITN, & ALN, may not be released as singles is because the have already been OFFICIALLY RELEASED by WB & Adam as teasers for the album. Anything else from TOH album on YouTube has been put up by fans.
But as I said earlier......What Do I Know!!!! ::haha::

I chose The Original High. I think that has a lot of commercial appeal. Who isn't addicted to something that gets them high? I love the fact that it was written by Adam & used to promo the project. Plus Adam talks about it all the time so I think it's a personal favorite. Another Lonely Night would be my second choice. Rumors or Evil in the Night would be 3rd/4th. I love The Light & Heavy Fire but don't think they are commercial enough. Not a fan of These Boys - it's my least favorite. I keep trying to but it just annoys me. My favorite bonus song is After Hours - love the vibe. ::icecream:: :)

I chose EITN because of the fact that Adam seems to really like it, and it seems like that COULD be the next single, given the fact that he performs that song whenever he can. For example, tonight at the Logo Trailblazer Honors Awards. He did both Ghost Town & Evil In The Night. He also did it on GMA, even though that song wasn't televised. It makes me wonder if they're setting that song up to be the second single.
