I had such a fun night last night. Monte Pittman and Longineu Parsons are here in Melbourne supporting Adam Lambert on his world promo tour.

I have to admit that, before Adam Lambert I hadn't heard of either of these guys at all. Monte is well know for his band Prong, which is basically metal and not a genre I listen to. He also works with Madonna and teaches her guitar. You can check out these lj posts for more background on both Monte and Longineu.

Anyway, a little while ago I discovered that Monte has a kick-ass album out, which you can go and buy at cdbaby or at iTunes. It's called "The Deepest Dark" and I had it on constant play for over a week, and now it's on consistent rotation. Monte's (obviously) a fabulous guitar player and has a gorgeous voice and it's money well-spent.

When I found out that Adam's promo tour was coming to Australia, I was disappointed to realise that I couldn't get to Sydney and that they would only be in Melbourne for a very short time. That's when the magic of twitter came into play and I got chatting to some lovely people who were looking for open mic venues for Monte to play at in Melbourne or Sydney. We did our research and we finally narrowed it down to The Empress Hotel in Fitzroy North (just a couple of kms out of the Melbourne city centre).

I arrived about 8pm, and Monte and Longineu were already there, along with @kittybaroque. @tinaluvslambt arrived soon after. The three of us made up the whole Melbourne contingent! There were only about 30 or so people in the pub at all, so we got a very intimate performance.

Longineu got up on stage first with a local singer/songwriter and accompanied him on the drum. They did three original songs, and then Monte and Longineu came on about 8:30-ish. They did a three-song set, all off Monte's album. There was some great improv from both of them and the crowd loved it.

We then listened to several other local artists, a couple of which were well worth seeing again.

Monte and Longineu came on for another set of three at the end of the night and did two songs from Monte's album and one of Prong's numbers.

Monte and Longineu were both tired from travel and no break in their promotions and were both delightful, generous and gave kick-ass performances. I can't wait to see them again. If you get the opportunity, go see either/both of them for yourself.

A couple of things on the Lehmo interview;

The DJ admiring Adam's jacket (cute) and Adam saying he doesn't like to wear the same thing twice. And of course we all know he "recycles' all the time. So I thought "WHAT"?? Then his comment that he means award shows etc. (and my flashbacks to his many different outfits.)

And the playback of the Simon remark on Leno...Adam looked like it was the first time he heard Simon's acknowledgment. I would have thought someone would have twittered him about that.
