Adam Lambert to visit Beijing next week
The glam pop star will be in town for Tmall's Singles' Day concert
published on 5 Nov 2015
American Idol runner up and glam pop star Adam Lambert is due in Beijing next week for Tmall's November 11 Concert. The star-studded extravaganza, held in celebration of the excuse for massive, unrestrained consumerism known as Singles' Day, will be held at the Water Cube on November 10. It will, of course, be broadcasted on national television (it starts at 8.30pm, in case you're interested).
Lambert will perform songs from his third album, The Original High, which was released in June. The album follows the success of his second LP Trespassing, which saw him top the Billboard charts and led to many media outlets declaring him the first openly gay pop star to do so.
If you don't catch him this time, not to worry. The erstwhile Queen collaborator is set to return to China in early 2016 as part of his world tour. This won't be his first visit to the country, with a 2013 concert in Shanghai and numerous appearances on Chinese TV.
Known for his glam stylings, Lambert is a popular figure in China, though media here rarely make mention of his LGBT rights activism.
In addition to his solo material, Lambert has also regularly fronted Queen reunion concerts, stepping into the role once occupied by Freddie Mercury - something of a dream role for the American. 'Freddie was a vocal powerhouse and an icon who made no apologies,' Lambert told Time Out Shanghai ahead of his 2013 concert there. 'He defined what a rock star is to me.'
