Adam Lambert: Australia, Hawaii, then Europe!
Adam Lambert signs autographs for fans at the airport on Thursday (October 21) in Sydney, Australia.
The 28-year-old rocker was en route Brisbane where he’ll perform at The Tivoli tomorrow as part of his Glam Nation Tour.
Adam has a jam-packed, jet-setting schedule for the next few weeks. After Australia, he’s off to Hawaii for two performances, then flying to Europe for more shows through the end of November!
On his time off, the American Idol season 8 runner-up created a video voicing his concern about anti-gay bullying. Check out Adam’s message:

Honour Among Queens

Last night I went to see Adam Lambert’s second Australian show for his current Glam Nation tour. I write this with no little trepidation, knowing now all too well the ferocity of some of Adam’s fans.
Before I go on, some background on a couple of the key players in this story:
Adam Lambert. If you don’t know who he is, you need to Wikipedia that crap, Heidi. What you may or may not know is that he coined the term “TongueDiving” a few months ago after a show in Providence, Rhode Island, where, during the encore, he had gone into the audience to pash (n. to kiss passionately, pref. with tongue) a couple of audience members. After that show he tweeted, “TongueDiving is the new StageDiving. Get into it”.
Matthew Mitcham. Australian Olympic gold-medallist diver and happily non-married homosexualist. He’s been with his current non-husband for over four years and is utterly adorable (not to mention very, very pretty).
So. I had been to the Melbourne show at the Palais on Tuesday night, where I met some of the fans through Katie, who is really hooked in with the fandom (or the fancipality as I now call it). The show was great, but you should have heard my drag-queen voice by the end of it. I sounded terrible from all the screaming.
But this isn’t about Tuesday night; this is about the events of last night.
Through Twitter, we had discovered that Matt had not managed to secure tickets to Adam’s show, but fortunately, we happened to have two spares. So, via a mutual Twitter friend, we got in contact with him offering him our spares.
We waited in the queue and Matt swung by to pick up the tickets on his way between a photo shoot and home to get ready for the concert.
When he got to the venue with his mate, Lexie, we ensured that he was down the front with us and Katie tweeted Adam to alert him to the fact that Matt was there (as did Matt).
During ‘If I Had You’, the last number of the concert proper, Adam said that he was feeling frisky, and intimated (to those who know of the original TongueDiving incident) that there would be a second round of dives happening.
We’re pretty sure he’d seen Matt, because he came right over to where we were standing, and said, “Now, where’s that cute Matt Mitcham?”, at which point everyone around Matt started pointing at him furiously and pushing him forward. According to Katie, Matt asked her what was going to happen.
Katie responded that Adam would probably want to kiss him, which Matt, being happily non-married, baulked at, so he started backing away, assisted by Katie, and politely declining the invitation.
Adam soon enough got the message that this wasn’t going to happen and backed off, instead kissing a girl in the front row, and then went on with what he was doing, which happened to include a second bout of TongueDiving (with a boy who has since been all over the radio blabbing about it). He did say that he respected Matt’s wishes, though, before moving on.
Almost immediately after the aborted TongueDive, Matt tweeted Sorry @adamlambert, I have a boyfriend… Didn’t mean to be rude ;P.
After the concert, there were quite a few tweets to Matt, of varying degrees of meanness, from people saying he was mad for not indulging Adam, mainly, I suspect, from people who don’t know a) who he is and/or B) that he is currently in a long-term, monogamous relationship (and solid monogamy, Kimmy, not just a veneer of monogamy).
For mine, though, it was refreshing. We had Matt respecting Lachie (the aforementioned non-husband) and we had Adam respecting Matt’s wishes.
Frankly, I think both men acted with honour and grace. And proved that chivalry is not dead, it’s just getting a bit dirrty (as Xtina would put it).
CLARIFICATION (moved from comments): I just saw a YouTube video of the Incident, and it appears that Adam did not call Matt by name, but was calling him “that boy jumping up and down”. After the aborted TongueDive, he said, “That one guy there looked real scared … I respect you, man; I don’t want to force myself on you”

The story above grabbed my attention ‘cos of the latest round of rivalry between the two Simons- Cowell and Fuller and with the former owning the “X Factor” property and the other controlling the “Idol” juggernaut. Adam Lambert on “X Factor”- even if it was in Australia and where he recently toured so successfully – didn’t make sense considering his management deal with 19 Entertainment.
Perhaps there are some exceptions to the rule. Plus, give me Simon Fuller over enforced Cowellisms any time of the day.
Reading this piece made me wonder what the performer has to do to almost “validate” himself with the American media- and the powers-that-be in the American music industry. Fan Power is a great support system, but, sadly, it does not open doors that are needed to advance an artist’s career.
Other artists distancing themselves from him don’t help and I wonder where all those who could support the guy and who have advocated for Gay Rights have gone. Or was all that, too, just more “Yes We Can” showbiz and theatrics?
There is no Fan TV- not as yet, anyway- though fans have contributed towards creating this- and continue to do so via YouTube, Facebook, Spotify, Twitter, MySpace etc, all of which rely solely on fan-generated and consumer generated content- and which keeps given away daily for free.
To get in the “good books” of the American media, does he- “The Glambert”- grovel, does he “repent” or does he get on with his life and career?
Adam Lambert must be seen on the AMAs, the Grammys, The MTV Music Awards etc. It shows “acceptance” by his peers and leads to different and new career paths.
If managing him, one thing I would do is keep him well away from people like Perez Hilton. I’m about as “homophobic” as Cher and Liza Minnelli- combined- but Perez Hilton is a slime ball and his image of being the “wunderkind” of “all things hip” are over. No one wants to touch him.
This is a weasel whose 15 minutes of fame were up twenty minutes ago and is now trying desperately to get back to being the “celebrity blogger” he saw himself as before the world just tired of his antics and Joy Behar tore him apart on CNN.
I can watch this clip forever. Behar plays with him like a cat plays with a cockroach.
A few of us were talking about a number of artists the other day who careers have taken a pounding because of some wrong career moves or else, for some reason, having a powerful faction of the media go gunning for them.
Taylor Swift was one of the names and the fact that she’s performing in Hong Kong next month and where hardly anyone knows her makes no sense at all. Adam Lambert was the other.
For the record, the Asian media, the Japanese media, the media in Oz- as seen above- love him. They- the media- are fans.
Having the American mainstream media and all these awards show ignore him, almost makes him have more appeal. Almost. But they genuinely love the talent of the guy and see him as, yes, something like the “Edward Scissorhands” of the music industry, the bastard son of Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust and “The Man Who Fell Down To Earth.”
The difference is that when “Ziggy” simulated fellatio on guitarist Mick Ronson no one cared a damn. It was great camp. And it was David Bowie who was Ziggy.

In these markets, they also see Adam Lambert as being the Poster Boy for Change and a change in getting rid of rigid old taboos such as homosexuality.
Like having one’s hand whacked for writing as a south paw, homosexuality has come out of Asia’s closets, but not many can accept it.
I know a young man in his thirties who lived in Hong Kong and finally told his elder sister that he was gay, had a Chinese boyfriend, and she immediately wanted him to see a psychiatrist. And they were/are American. Ignorance does not discriminate.

I then read the piece above from Down Under and, I don’t know why, but it made me go, “Uh-oh” and “Is this fanning the fires” and “What will the American mainstream media make of this?” and “Would this mean more producers of American television awards shows getting even more homophobic and worried and wondering if all this mano-to-mano kissing is part of an act which travels with Adam Lambert everywhere?”
Sydney is the new Gay capital of the world having taken over the “mantle” from San Francisco ages ago and where anything and everything goes and which is kinda ironic for such a chauvinistic and “blokey” country where on the other side of the fence are Aussie Rules Football blokes who guzzle Tooheys, chew beer cans for breakfast, look women up and down and say things like, “She’s a bloody ordinary sheila, mate.”
“The Glambert” must be loving the freedom and fans and being some kinda Wizard Of Oz, and good on him. But, Australia is a small record buying market though touring is profitable. But, it’s also “only Australia” and, as I have written here a few times, it is a market that gets very little interest as a genuine music market. Japan, Korea, they tower over the Aussie music market.
Right now, what’s key is how Adam Lambert can win over America’s mainstream media. Please don’t say, it doesn’t matter ‘cos “we” love him as hat is not going to further his career.
Again, personally, Adam, let go of the mano to mano kissing. If not, it will become a gimmick [and albatross] and this gimmick will live forever and bite you on your ass.
You have a great voice, an amazing band and you put on a brilliant show. We know you are gay and proud of it, but there’s no need to flaunt it. Not now, anyway, when you are re-building your career path after the days of “Idoltary” and need to be working with artists like Pink on some great new songs, or incredible covers and collaborating with and being “endorsed” by “media-friendly” artists- and not in some faked-out way.Pink is not fake. She’s very good and a big enough name. Plus, Oprah loves her.
I read pieces like those from Oz and though brilliant and lavish in their praise, somehow, His Gayness was taking over from something like His Highness of Pop or King Of Glam.
The association with Glam is wide open. I don’t think anyone has associated themselves with Glam more than Adam Lambert and not embraced it as much since Ziggy Stardust period David Bowie.
The game plan now should be to focus on this, make it really work and make this Glam Is Back strategy an entire show, a real USP and not just a label and even lead to his own TV Special. If the mountain won’t come to Mohamed, create one’s own mountain and let whoever wants to scale it, scale it.
Adam Lambert working with someone like the BBC and tapping into their incredible vault of footage from “Top Of The Pop” and “The Old Grey Whistle Test” and featuring the real icons of Glam- Bowie, Marc Bolan, all those New Romantics etc- having them on this Special, creating “The Glambert” Awards, having New Wave Glam guests from around the world etc is all within his grasp.

Another Interesting and thoughtful article by Mr Ebert and worth a quick read I think, perhaps even starting with the bolded part which specifically speaks to so much of what we are all loving here in this thread..the wildness,breaking the rules keeping it always fresh and exciting,pushing the boundaries and apparently Sydney is the place to do it! My first reaction of course is just keep doing what you're doing so well!
But then he gives us more serious matters to think about as Adam fans...like where does he go from here and at what point might the kissing and now escalating sexuality/sensuality take too much attention from the brilliant vocals and other great talents in the show??
Lots of questions about what happens after Sydney a turning point perhaps and even after Glamnation and his return to the United States. What's next for our Glam Rock God... many thoughtful and intelligent comments.
