Tonight's show is at ACADEMY 2

Birmingham is a city and metropolitan borough in the West Midlands county of England. It is the most populous British city outside London, with a population of 1,028,700 (2009 estimate).
Birmingham was a powerhouse of the Industrial Revolution in England, a fact which led to it being known as "the workshop of the world" or the "city of a thousand trades". Although Birmingham's industrial importance has declined, it has developed into a national commercial centre, being named in 2010 as the third-best place in the United Kingdom to locate a business. Birmingham is a national hub for conferences, retail and events along with an established high tech, research and development sector, supported by its three Universities. It is also the fourth-most visited city by foreign visitors in the UK.

Birmingham has had a vibrant and varied musical history over the last century. Birmingham bands have made a major contribution to the musical culture of the United Kingdom, with many contemporary bands citing Birmingham bands as a major influence. In the 1960s, the "Brum Beat" era featured blues and early progressive rock bands, such as The Moody Blues. The city is often described as the birthplace of heavy metal music, with Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Magnum, and two members of Led Zeppelin being local. Then later on during the 80s bands such as Napalm Death, joined the Birmingham heavy metal scene.
In the 1970s, members of The Move and The Idle Race formed the Electric Light Orchestra and Wizzard. The 1970s also saw the rise of reggae and ska in the city with such bands as Steel Pulse, UB40, Musical Youth and The Beat, expounding racial unity with politically leftist lyrics and multiracial lineups, mirroring social currents in Birmingham at that time. Seminal 1980s pop band Duran Duran are also from Birmingham.

The Venue
The former venue of the O2 Academy (Carling Academy) was known in the 1980s and 1990s as the Hummingbird and previously the site of the Rank Ballroom. The venue underwent refurbishment in the late 1990s and opened as the Birmingham Academy in 2000, being rebranded as the "Carling Academy" two years later. On 6 November 2008, it was announced that Telefónica Europe (owners of the O2 Network in the UK) had become the new sponsor of all Academy venues, in a deal with music promotor Live Nation. The deal, which lasts for five years, sees all venues rebranded "The O2 Academy”.

In September 2009, The O2 Academy Birmingham moved to the site of the former Dome Nightclub located on Horsefair, Bristol Street. The decision to move to a brand new venue was decided twofold. The former venue was unsuitable for the needs of a modern music venue and the building complex it resided in (along with the Oasis Centre, located above it) was scheduled for demolition as part of a project called Martineau Galleries. Due to the credit crunch and reduced investment in buy to let projects the project has been put on hold. The Used played the last ever Academy listed show at the Dale End Academy. Editors headlined the opening night followed by The Twang, The Streets and Ocean Colour Scene. For these gigs, commemorative wristbands were given out as part of a marketing campaign by members of the marketing team known as O2 angels. Like the fomer Academy venue, the new venue has a multi-room operation with the main room having a capacity of 3,009 (of which there is a dedicated 600 capacity seated area) and two other rooms, the O2 Academy 2 with 600 and O2 Academy 3 with 250. However in an improvement to the old academy, the venue has been designed to allow all three venues to be in use at the same time, with a dedicated queueing system and box office for each room. Therefore the venue has a full capacity of 3,859.
To coincide with the launch of the Bristol St venue, the club night Propaganda moved from the Gatecrasher venue in Birmingham to the Academy on Friday 18 September 2009. This is now a club night spread over all three academy rooms, playing a variety of indie/pop music. Subculture, a well known metal/rock club which was hosted at the Dale End academy moved to the new venue on September 26, 2009.

UK Fans crying out for Adam Lambert

The people of the UK are crying out for Adam Lambert.

It’s no secret that Adam’s UK fans believe he is under promoted here, and the fact that someone so talented is still unknown by so many people means something is going wrong somewhere.

We recently asked our readers who they would like to see perform on the X Factor results shows this year and we were overwhelmed by the number of comments crying out for Adam to perform on the hit ITV show while he is over here on tour.

Fans feel that a great opportunity to get Adam’s name out there was missed during the first live show of the series, when Simon Cowell spoke about Adam, but failed to mention his name.

It was contestant Aiden Grimshaw’s performance of Mad World that reminded Simon of Adam’s performance of the track on American Idol.

After Aiden’s performance, Simon said: “Interestingly, this is the second time I’ve sat on one of these shows and been blown away by that song. It happened once in America and it’s just happened again tonight.”
