Who wants a ridiculously long recap?
Quick background for those that don’t know me: I’m 20, I’m a college student (I’m a Math major, so don’t blame me if my writing has gone to hell. Haha.), and this was my second show this summer. I was at Foxwoods in June and I also saw Adam last summer on the Idols tour. I’m also a very proud native Rhode Islander, so it made my heart happy that his show there (I can’t say here because I’m in CT right now, but close enough!) was such a success. But now for the recap…
So the day started out as kind of a bummer. I was supposed to go with two of my friends, but my bestie called me in the morning to say that our other friend was sick and couldn’t come. So that kind of sucked, but we decided to make the best of it and have a good time anyway. It also left me with an extra ticket that I ultimately couldn’t get rid of. Which kind of sucks, because it means someone who wanted to go could have since I had an extra that I ended up not doing anything with. But whatever, there’s nothing that can be done about it now. So anywho, my bestie comes over at around 11, we do our hair and nails and get going. We were dressed pretty boring, because we figured if we were going to sit outside all day, we may as well be comfy. So I was just wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and sneakers. I felt really underdressed while I was in line, but then it paid off during the show, because it was hot and sticky and gross in there. Also, I kept getting stepped on so I was glad I wore appropriate footwear. :haha:
But anyway, we left my house at 11:30, stopped for lunch on the way there, and managed to get into Providence by 1:30 or so, at which point we got lost (of course), but we managed to find our way to the parking garage (we parked near PPAC, which is a block away, so as to avoid all the post-concert traffic) and get over the Lupo’s by about 2. We ended up on the corner of the side of the block that Lupo’s is actually on, so not too far back in line. There were maybe 70 people in front of us in line, so not bad, all things considered. It was maybe after 3 or 3:30 that the line kind of exploded and by 5 it was all the way around the block. We could see the buses from where we were, and we saw Tommy a few times walking between the venue and the buses, and then Monte as well. I saw David Immerman (Alli’s guitar player) hanging around by the buses and then by the equipment trucks but I was too far away to call him over without causing a commotion, probably. I think I was the only one who recognized him, at least in my part of the line, because when I said he was over there a bunch of heads whipped around. :haha: I heard Adam went out to sign after the doors had already opened and we were inside, but we didn’t see him at all while we were out there.
So we got inside at 7:45 or so. Everyone was already sweaty and gross from being outside all afternoon, and it was hot in there, so it was like a giant orgy before the show even started. But anyway, as soon as we got in the door, I grabbed my friend’s hand and ran down the stairs into the main part of the club. We got down to the stage and were maybe three or four rows back from the stage. I was freaking out from being that close. (Little did I know…) There were a group of older ladies in front of us, and they didn’t seem to be into squishing forward as much as they could, and we soon realized that it was because one of them had a little girl with her. This kid was probably 9 or 10 max. Now, I have no problem with anyone attending the concerts, in fact I think it’s great how diverse the fanbase is. What I do have a problem with is putting a kid in danger, which at a place like Lupo’s was exactly what they were doing. There were moments last night where I felt like I was in danger, just because the crowd was so intense and surging forward, nevermind a 10 year old. They stayed there through Alli’s set and eventually moved when they realized during intermission how insane it was going to be, but I just couldn’t believe the stupidity. Sorry if my saying that is offensive to anyone, but seriously, if you’re going to bring a kid, make sure it’s somewhere with reserved seating. These GA shows are dangerous, so either leave the kid home or don’t get into the middle of the fray. There were a few people in front of us (me, my friend, and the other girls around us) yelling not to push forward, but there was a wall of people behind us and we just couldn’t physically back up. Most of this happened during intermission and then they left (not sure where they went, probably to the back), and that’s how we ended up getting up to the front. But I just thought it was ridiculous and I don’t want to start anything, I just wanted to bring attention to it. But anyway, on to happier things.
Allison came on just after 8:30 and she was GREAT. I loved hearing the extended set because she did some slower stuff, whereas at Foxwoods everything was really upbeat. I got video of her singing No One Else, which ended up being the only video I got all night, since I was getting too jostled during Adam’s set to hold my camera still long enough to take video. As mentioned upthread, Immerman was wearing an Eye of Horus tour tee, which I thought was awesome. The crowd was pretty into Alli, but I felt like I was the only one who knew all the words to her songs and was singing along. Other people knew Don’t Waste the Pretty and FIBOU, but that was pretty much it. She seemed to have a good time though, and so did we, so it’s all good. I hope she made some new fans last night.
So then there was intermission, which is when the pushing really started. I talked to the girl next to me and I guess she had met the band at her hotel that morning. She had a picture of her and Tommy that she was showing off to everyone. We had a little bit of arguing with the “don’t push, there’s a kid here,” but other than that it was fine. It was insanely hot in there and the security guys started spraying the crowd with water and then throwing bottled water into the crowd, which resulted in even more shoving. My glasses got all wet and the spray ruined my hair, which I had painstakingly straightened earlier in the day. But at least it cooled us down a little bit. The crowd was singing along with a bunch of the songs they played, which was fun. They played Sweet Caroline, DSB, Play That Funky Music, and a bunch of other stuff. It was fun.
Intermission felt never ending because of the heat, but at about 9:50 the FYE remix started and things got insane. Everyone was just pushing forward and I ended up in the second row somehow ( :w00t: ) over to the right. By the end of the show I had worked my way over towards the center, not really sure how that happened, but it was awesome. So anyway, it was a completely wild crowd, which you all already knew. When Adam came out for Voodoo the energy was just insane. It wasn’t the first time I’d seen him live, or even been to a show this summer, but it was the first time I had been that physically close to him. I’ve always found Adam to be sexy as hell, but I’ve always kind of rolled my eyes at all the “Adamgasm” talk and all that. But being that close, you just want to grab him and hold on. The sexual energy he gives off is just unreal, and he’s just so freaking charismatic. The sound system at Lupo’s kind of really sucks, so some of the quality of his voice was lost over the speakers, but it didn’t matter, because he was just so wild and sexual that was all that anyone cared about. And he still sounded amazing, his voice just wasn’t as all-encompassing as it was the other times I saw him. But anyway, we were all freaking out through the opening medley just from his presence.
Then Fever started and all hell broke loose. Tommy was standing on the stairs before Adam came down them, and then Adam came down and kind of leaned backwards onto Tommy. I’m not even that into the Adommy thing (my favorite professor is named Tommy Ratliff. It makes the Adommy thing awkward for me. :| ), but I was just like “HAWT” and then he licked him guewfhaowefhaw. Umm, yeah. So then he’s dancing and stuff and getting frisky with the dancers. So we knew he was going to be really wild just from that. At this point I’m pretty far over on the right, I can see what’s going on, but I’m not in the middle of the action. My friend is though. So he comes over to our side and kind of tips his hip to the right and lets people put their hands ALL OVER HIM. My friend managed to run her hand down his arm and she freaked out. I was trying to reach him, but I was maybe 6 inches too far to the right. The girl in front of me grabbed his crotch, pretty sure she was the one tweeting about it after. She was just like “OMG I SQUEEZED THE BULGE!” and I was like :omg: while seething that she was in front of me, since she had been behind me in line earlier. :lmao: Honestly, I would never be bold enough to grab the bulge. Any other part of him is fair game though. :bleh: So we’re all freaking out, like oh crap, did that really just happen?? I was pretty much hyperventilating that I got so close to touching him and didn’t get to, while trying to hold my ground and not get pushed back by other people in the crowd. It was at this point that I started to force my way to the center, I think. I wasn’t about to miss another opportunity. :haha:
Then he did Sleepwalker, which is my favorite, but nothing really momentous happened. Although during the dancers’ interlude thing before it, Tommy was drinking out of one of those silver goblets with a straw. It was cute. And it was cool to see the dancers up close, they do really great stuff. So then he did the acoustic stuff, WWFM was gorgeous and everyone sang along  and there were a lot of blue glowsticks. Oh, and he moved the stool probably a good foot closer to the audience from where it was on the stage. Before Soaked, Cam did a long piano solo. Idk if there were tech issues or what, but it was really pretty. Then Adam came out and it was gorgeous. Lots of screaming though, which annoys me. (I think it annoys everyone and people do it anyway. ) And then Aftermath of course was beautiful and inspiring. We had a singalong for it and everyone arund me laughed at my inability to stay in tune for the long notes. I was like “In the aftermaaaaaaeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaooooooth.” Or something. But anyway, it was really pretty and uplifting and made me want to cry. Acoustic Aftermath >>>>>>>>>>>> CD Aftermath. Times about 8,000.
Then it was time for SFW! They totally rocked it out and he was hitting really epic high notes. Also, I don’t really like the vest/matching pants ensemble in pictures and videos (sorry Adam), but it looks amazing on him in person. Hell, I feel like anything would look amazing on him in person. But anyway, SFW, Strut, and Music Again were all awesome but pretty standard. He was a complete tease during Strut with that pimp cane and was pretending to masturbate with it. :haha: At some point (I think during Strut, but I’m not entirely sure, it could have been later during IIHY), he came over to our side like he was going to let us grab him, but then backed away quick and went over to the other side and let them instead. This was around the time that I ended up dead center, right behind the girl he later kissed (Erica?) and kind of wedged next to the guy.
So IIHY is about to start and he takes a drink from the goblet, toasts Monte, and gives his “it’s only water” line, sounding so very innocent. Or not really. So then he’s doing the band intros during IIHY and he does Cam and LP and then gets to Tommy. He’s totally pawing him and Tommy’s leaning back, and I was like “oh crap, what are they gonna do?” So he just was like “This is Tommy Joe, he’s the bassist. Let me tell you something about Tommy. He likes girls.” Disappointed tone, long pause. “But he also likes this.” And they legit start making out. This wasn’t the kind of kissing they do during Fever, this was more like the AMA kiss. I’m like :spaz: the entire time and don’t manage to take a picture. But then Adam wipes freaking lip stick off Tommy’s face when the break apart. And Tommy tried to follow Adam across stage when Adam went over to Monte. :haha: I know it’s just fanservice, and like I said, I’m not that into Adommy, but Tommy looked seriously besotted at this point. IIHY was really fun, he had us sing along and looked totally delighted that we knew all the words. During the dancers’ intros, he was cheering them all on, and his dance with Brooke was hot. And I’m pretty sure she hit him in the balls again, she’s probably doing it on purpose at this point. :bleh: Oh, and he was doing his pointing thing during the “you” part and he gave a thumbs up to the guy I was next to. (The one he later kissed.) Since it was in my general direction, I decided to pretend it was aimed at me. ^_^ So they finish, and of course with as wild and intense as the crowd was all night, we were all screaming like crazy for him to come back. It was a really short wait for the encore, shorter than Foxwoods, I’m pretty sure. I could see Adam and the band off stage talking and laughing before they came back out.
So they did Mad World, which was great from what I remember, but honestly at that point I was so :spaz: (and this was before I knew what was coming) that I don’t remember much. :haha: And then, of course, was Twentieth Century Boy. He started it and I was just like “oh crap, this is going to be good.” You could just tell. He’d been so frisky and sexual all night long, it was going to culminate in something major. The audience was just buzzing with it. So he’s wailing his little heart out and all of a sudden he’s pointing to the girl in front of me and singing directly to her, and we all start freaking out even more than we already were. Then all of a sudden he’s on his knees kissing her. I was behind her, so I didn’t see the actual kiss, but I could tell what was going on and I was like :o for a second. I was completely paralyzed by it, and then I realized that everyone around me was grabbing for him and it was like time slowed down. I reached out my hand and ended up touching his hair. At first I was kind of stroking it (OMG that sounds so bad and awkward :haha: ) and then I managed to just get my hand tangled in it for a second until he pulled away. I don’t know that I can even describe what it felt like (I’ve tried a bunch of times today already), but it was sweaty and sticky and there was a ton of gel in it, but it was still soft and flexible at the same time. It wasn’t like it was hard or anything, I just wanted to run my hands through it all day. My friend managed to get her hand on the back of his neck by his hairline. The real kicker here is that I ended up with glitter all over my hands and arm, and I wasn’t wearing any last night, so it was definitely from Adam. :omg: It was really depressing when it got washed away in the shower this morning. So at this point we’re all tripping out, and Adam just starts singing again. And then he gets to the chorus and reaches out and grabs the guy next to me! :omg: I think he picked him because not only was he cute, but just because he was tall. Adam barely needed to bend to reach the guy, anyone else as far back as him and Adam would have been essentially crowd surfing. So I react faster this time and take the opportunity to run grab on to his arm and I manage to run my hand all the way down. His muscles are very firm. Just saying. And then instead of letting go I held his hand for a second. Like, I had a good enough grip I probably could have pulled his glove off if I wanted to, I think I was the last one he pulled away from, I didn’t try to hold on when he pulled away though. Because he still had a song to finish and all that. :haha: So yeah, that was f*cking epic. Then he finishes and the guy he kissed (Eric?) is just like “whoa, tongue and everything!” I told him he’s the luckiest guy ever. And then the crowd got really intense trying to crowd him, and I got kind of caught in it. It was probably the scariest moment of the night for me, my feet practically left the ground and my glasses almost got knocked off. But I managed to get out intact and found my friend and gave her a huge hug. We were just in complete disbelief. I’m pretty sure I alternated between :spaz: and :omg: for about an hour straight after that. Then as we were leaving I just kept repeating over and over “I f*cking touched Adam Lambert’s f*cking hair. OMG.” And I guess they couldn’t tell what was going on from the back, because some woman was like “You touched him? and I told her how he kissed people and she was like "WOW." We were going to stay after but since we had to drive home we wanted to get going before the adrenaline wore off. I kind of felt like once I crashed it wasn’t going to be pretty. Oh, and in the car on the way home, my friend was like “I feel like I should call my boyfriend and apologize. It kind of felt like I was cheating on him.” :lmao:
Umm yeah, so that’s about it, I think. I’ll probably think of more to add, but there’s a lot to digest still, so. I’m going to Cohasset on Friday, and I’m really excited for it, but at the same time, I know that it won’t be anywhere near as crazy as this one was. But it’s going to be great and I know I’m insanely lucky to get to three of these shows this summer! Also, getting in line at 2 was so very worth it. I got really lucky with the way things played out with the people in front of me moving and stuff, so yeah. If anyone’s in doubt about how awesome these GA shows can be, don’t be. The crowds suck, but I would never have had a chance to get this close to Adam without the show being GA. I kind of feel like this was my only opportunity to get that close, because I doubt he’ll be playing these small clubs on his next tour. So it was all so worth it. It really was one of the greatest nights of my life, I’m not even kidding. So much epicness, OMG. This is way too long for me to proofread, so if there’s stuff that doesn’t make sense, sorry. :haha: And congratulations if you made it all the way through. :P (Official word count is at 3578, by the way.)
